I have recently scanned my car and my friends. We both have Audi a6 C5 2002 1.9 TDI AWX.

Running on tick over my car is using approx 11g/s - 12.5/gs of air. My friends car is using between 6g/s - 7g/s.
My manifold pressure reading is constantly 255kpaa, my friends car is around 100kpaa.

As i go on and off the accelerator on my car the MAP reading does not alter at all, however the air flow obviously does. My friends car however, his MAP reading climbs and drops as you would expect when going on and off the throttle (his air flow also changes accordingly).

My question is WHY is mine constantly 255kpaa using the same diagnostic equipment across both identical cars. I even tried borrowing his MAP sensor in my car which made no difference! I've also got a new bosche MAF unit and still that strange readings!

Can anyone give me something to try next?!

    Thanks,
    Jamie

Would bad wiring give me a constant reading? Would it not show blank?

    UPDATE

Checked plug wires with the key turned one click so the dash lights up. Got 4.95 V on both middle wires and checked earth. I then decided to drive with the unit disconnected. Turbo was not howling like it usually does and car was quieter however was down on power! With the car keys turned one click and not even running the car still reads 255kpaa inlet manifold pressure. Running it still shows this and booting it, it still shows this!! Oh and when I unplugged it, car ran as described above however still showing 255kpaa on the laptop?!?!? Any ideas?

So with it disconnected it gives the same reading, hence maybe wiring fault or as suggested, remap?

    Hey Guys,

I have had a remap on the car by Blacksmoke. However when i emailed them they basically said that shouldn't be happening... They told me to get my hands on VCDS but i cannot find anyone with it atm and was hoping someone else might have an idea of something else on the car that could cause this kind of issue!

I know you mention the wiring however i get voltage on the wires and the ground etc... and if i drive the car with the sensor unplugged the car doesn't run very nice... doesn't give any errors but doesn't drive as well as it does with the sensor connected...

Good point there re wiring. I'd suspect the remap then. Even with the free version of vcds (with £15 eBay cable) you can read live data etc so might be worth it to investigate further..

Ok so got my hands onto VCDS and done some scanning!

There is no issues coming up regarding the connection to the MAP unit (i know this as i did find a broken wire to the fuel temperature sensor and had to solder that!). SO no error codes pointing at the MAP unit... the value is still displaying 255KPaa (2.5BAR) constantly even with the car not running, full throttle or idle!

I was told to do a 2nd gear run from 1500 rpm to red line. Apparently someone online might be able to look at the values from groups 003, 011 & 013??

Really want to find the problem!!
