Can anyone help me please just had my C7 2.0tdi Oil service and asked for the garage to do a Long Life Oil change, I was expecting to see the MMI service mileage for my next Oil Change to be in the 18k area but it shows 9300 miles to my next oil change, I asked the garage who thought the Mechanic had reset the MMI to the normal service interval so they proceeded to use VCDS to change my cars service to Long life, but it will not reset the Oil change mileage from 9300 miles it changes the "Next service" mileage to 18000 but the oil is reset every time to 9300 miles.
    Is this correct ??

or are they doing it wrong in VCDS.

any advice would be gratefully received.

VCDS is a complete joke when it comes to resetting the latest Audi service intervals, oil changes on the MMI are called services on the lap top and services called inspections so it gets very confusing, I think thats the way round it does it, very confusing. Anyway, longlife intervals are bad for your engine, we do the LL3 oil on 9300 intervals unless the customer bullies me into the 18K intervals but I make my displeasure obvious.

Thank you for the reply can I ask why is it bad for the engine, I ask as its something I have always been sceptical about but told "its fine Audi wouldnt recomend it if there was an issue" but its never sat well with me.

also what are you saying in VCDS changes the oil inspection.

    thanks for your help

I don't get the last bit but simply speaking, no oil known to man can cope with 18000 mile intervals and still be working properly. On cars with chain driven cams and oil pumps it is known to promote failure, Longlife was dreamt up by marketing departments to sell new cars to fleet users. What amplifies the problem with LL intervals is human nature, when the light comes on people often think "ohh I'll get that done next month" and before they realise it four months and another 4k have passed and the oil is beaten to death. Sometimes the stench of it when it is being drained will drift though all four buildings here.

I went the other way. Mine was delivered with variable 20k ish service interval and got them to change it to fixed 10k.
Like said earlier I wouldnt trust oil to last that long and to safe guard the engine longevity I would change it 10k ~ £100 oil service as opposed to £1000s for rebuild. Other thing is the euro bureaucrat dictates cars to have long service intervals to be greener.
Thing is the decision is yours, if you plan to keep the car for long do it every 10k. If it's a lease car or one you rid of after 3 years then do it 20k. It won't become your problem.

Another simple way this has been put is; If you are a short term owner who will not have the car after say 3 years... then long life oil changes could work for you with some savings in running costs etc.

If on the other hand you are a long term owner, with an interest in engine health on a long term basis, 8-10k oil changes is the way to go...

I am a long termer... e.g.; will be keeping my car 9-10 years... so with the interest of the engine and all oil wear related components in mind... short term oil replacements is they way I go... My car is set to long term on vcds... but I do an intermediate oil change when the 9-10k mileage comes up... do the change either by myself or by an independent; e.g.; save a wee bit on this 'extra' oil change...
