Can anyone confirm if the mechanical part of the latches are the same on front and rear doors, i.e. can a latch from rear door be used on front if the electrical unit is swapped over ?

This happened to me the other day. Would only close when shut slowly. Cleaned up lock and sprayed with white grease. Seems all good. Also adjusted my strike plate so the door is nice and tight.

Had the same problem with passenger door,my old lock had taken alot of punishment from people slamming the door
replaced lock with scrappie one and adjusted the striker plate,my door needs to be lifted slightly and closed slowly as i think its from the door sagging on the hinge
still doesnt close 100% properly unless i do it slowly

No i dont,i gave it to somebody for parts they wanted of it,the jaws that attach to the striker plate had lots of damage from passengers slamming it
Just see if your door is sagging slightly, you will see when its nearly shut, might be a couple of cms low

Thanks for replying, I was looking for an old unit for experimental purposes as I think I have found out what causes this bounce
issue, but I need more research to confirm. Your door hinge situation may be improved by fitting shims at bottom of door between
door frame and hinge, I also think that if the striker adjustment is used as a means to raise the door it will aggravate the bounce.

    Thanks again
    Michael.

Just something to try....remove the striker plate from the door piller entirely. Then check the door alignment, if it is not square 100% all round, it needs adjustment. With the door nearly closed, try lifting it up and down. If there is movement, it means that there is wear in the hinges..mainly the bottom hinge. You will need to remove the inner piller trim and loosen the lock, lift up the door, and tighten the hinge nuts. This will allow you to align the door correctly to the frame, then put the striker plate back on the piller and check the in -out movement of the door when it locks. As Michael says, using the striker plate to adjust the door is not a good idea...always use the hinge adjustment, and it may be necessary to replace the hinge if the wear is excessive... doing this will eliminate the door alignment from the possible cause of bounce. After that......microswitch in the lock as the problem ????
    Good Luck with it,
    Jim...
