    Hope you can help.

I have a 2016 A6 Avant, 2.0 diesel ultra with auto gearbox and am hoping someone can tell me which grade of engine oil to deliver to the Audi dealer when they complete my first service early May (9000 miles on clock).

Spoke to the dealer and they said they use 0W30 fully synthetic, they recommend Shell Helix Professional.

Looked in the Audi Owners manual and it recommends VW 507 00 (for all other diesels other then the 3.0 litre) which looks like equivalent would be 5W30, manual recommends Castrol Edge Professional.

So, for my 2.0l ultra diesel should I buy 5 litres of 0W30 or 5W30 for the service ???

Either as both are approved 507.00 spec .

The cheapest 507.00 approved and VW owned oil is Quantum LongLife III .

    Thanks Gazwould,

and that won't give me any issues down the line warranty wise etc with Audi - it fully meets their spec ?

Don't want to cut corners on oil and have an issue down the line, I'm not in the trade and not heard of Quantum thats all

I think Quantum is made for VW so should not be an issues. It is supposedly made by Castrol but I'm not sure on that score.

Quantum is made in Gent ( Ghent ) , Belgium and that's a BP plant and BP owns Castrol.

    Belgium

Quantum is also marketed alongside Castrol .

    Quantum – Lubricants

No warranty implications , Quantum is VW trademarked and 507.00 is a VW oil specification .

Thanks for all the info guys, I have ordered 5litres of Shell Helix Professional AV-L 0W30 oil off Amazon for £36.99, checked with TPS and could get 5litres of Quantum Longlife III for just under £18 but need to go and collect (12 miles away). Knowing my luck I'd hit a pot hole on the way and regret collecting.

Anyway, all sorted I think now for my service in a months time.

Thanks again for your time and advice guys.

I know what you mean, I do drive the car, but TPS isn't somewhere I drive close to as a rule so is out my way - I've just learnt over the years that a perceived saving from collecting can be a false economy over getting something delivered.

Thats from somebody who loves saving money !

Just out of interest, what's making you have it serviced at 9000 miles? I thought the first service was at around 18,000 miles or 2 years?

Don't get me wrong, I'm a big fan of early oil changes and im considering my first service at 9000 miles too. Just wondered why you were choosing to service early?

I know this question wasn't directed at me but I change my oil between services. It costs very little doing it yourself (£40 incl filter dependent on oil) and takes about 15-20 mins once you know what you are doing and have a vacuum extractor. It has the benefit of keeping a FSH but with oil changes between should help the engine last longer. On the A6 C6, the rattling chains were thought to be due to infrequent oil changes. The engine definitely sounds better after an oil change too.
