Hi guys, I've been pulling my hair out trying to sort this. When I first got my car, I was sat on the drive playing with it , as you do, and I connected the car to my home wifi network.

However I tried to do this again the other day, and I cannot for the life of me figure out how to do it ! I know someone posted on here a while back about it, but I cannot find that thread.

The suggestion seems to be that it's in the "Telephone / Options / WiFi Settings" menu , where it should apparently give you the option of Hotspot or Hotspot and Client .

Mine doesn't have those options ! Am I missing something obvious or doing something stupid? I've tried with the extra sim card in place and removed !!

    Here's what I see

And here's what I thought I would see

    Cheers!

    Hi Ian,

I remember Andy and I discussing this on one thread but can't remember why. However we are both MY16 cars and the fix (from memory) was to pop the SIM out to allow you to connect to home wifi.

That said, even if MY17 with embedded SIM, I presume there must be a way as if you don't extend the embedded sim to use data, you should be able to hook up to your phones data via wifi?!

Haha.. I was just thinking the same thing.. I was like "we discussed this but I can't remember what the outcome was"...

It was definitely something to do with the SIM card.

Give the MMI a reboot too using the 3 finger salute... Hold NAV and Radio up and hit the big rotary button..

Any joy on this? I've got a support ticket with Audi at the moment, I've sent them the manual pages detailing how to get car to use a WiFi connection (WiFi client) but they tell me it's only available with phone box, which I've said is nonsense. More likely the embedded sim on the new models switches it off

I guess it's possible they're right, but that's certainly not made clear by the description of what Phone Box does.

What also makes me doubt it's true (or that it can at least be enabled via coding), is that I don't believe the phone box option is available in the US and Canada and I've seen a few posts recently where they've coded their cars to allow google earth overlay via their phones wifi. I think the data and Audi connect charges are expensive in the US.

Do you see the "hotspot and client" option? Did you select the Audi Connect Infotainment option?

It's greyed out for me. I think it was available on last year's model, enabled when no SIM was inserted. Now that UK cars come with the embedded sim, you're stuck, you can eject that and so it's greyed out permanently. Manual has no reference to requiring phone box.

Siybee. I bet it's coding 100% to enable. Mine is fine although I don't have embedded sim but I do have an EE sim in the car doing all my data stuff.

Is your car sline or SE? And no phone box correct?

I think I know what needs changing. Do you have odbeleven?

    Hi Siybee,

Here's the link the Canadian guys are using to enable google earth without Audi connect. The last two adaptation changes in module 5F look promising!

Nice one! It's those bottom 2 I'm sure.

    IDE03471-ENG117842-Vehicle configuration-WIFI_Hotspot - ON

I've just looked at my coding spreadsheet and a car without phone box has the first one set to off and a car that does have phone box it's set to on.

    Set it to on!

I'll look but this should be available without a coding change. I suspect it's the new embedded sim turning it off and they've not updated to manual yet
