So highline brake light was cracked and opening the boot I could hear water trickling around. I was also suffering intermittent alarm going off and the DIS showing boot open when closed.

Ordered a new high line brake light. I stripped the boot trim down (great guide on Audizine). Checked the rear wiper/washer motor for leaks and that seems okay. Hose connections all tight and running the wiper and spraying the washer didn’t reveal any issues. I did pull off the block connector for the boot micro switch showed it was wet so that explains the fault on the DIS and alarm activating and perhaps there was a leak rear washer at some point.

Looked closer and noticed that the amp in the boot driver side, was looking wet. Tracing upstream the rubber boot that runs under the removed boot hinge trim was slathered in silicone sealant, this was not something I’d done. I’ve stripped the sealant off, which wasn’t looking like it was about to last much longer and found this:

This looks like a fix on a screen wash hose and I’m suspecting that there’s a leak going on. Would I be right in saying that running through this boot is the washer supply and also electrical supply? The hose for the screen wash is a brittle corrugated plastic and I guess this has become worn and cracked.

Is there a how to on how to fix the split washer line and replace the rubber boot it runs through? It looks like it might be a tricky one with the electrical wires that will need unpeeling from the cloth tape, block connectors release and possibly pulled through the rubber boot too?

Any help or how to’s really appreciated, I’d like to sort this myself if possible. I just hope it doesn’t involve stripping out all the headlining and virtually dismantling the inside of my car.

    Thanks in advance

Yes they may well run together but the washer hose is clear 6mm hose. The king used in fish tanks and the like. It does go brittle with time but you can splice in a new piece where it is leaking.

Cheers Mike will head down the pet shop later. Any plastic ferrules or barbs you can recommend to help splice it in?

I did notice how loose the hose connection to the rear wiper motor is. Feels like the slightest clogged nozzle would make it fly off! Might go belt and braces on that whilst the boot trim is off.

Id also like to go about renewing the ribbed rubber boot too.
