Hi guys. My car starts to virbrate while accerlating recently. So took my car to a garage for inspection this morning. They told me my right side inner cv joint needs to be replaced but in the worst case I may need to replace the whole right side driveshaft, and they can't give me a quote until they take the driveshaft out tomorrow.

I couldn't find any place that is selling driveshaft online. so I am wondering does anyone know or have experience of change the whole driveshaft before? How much will it cost me? Want to get prepared before talking with them tomorrow. Thanks

a complete shaft is usually around the 150 - 200 mark from a place that supplied rebuilt units. allow 1 - 1.5 hours to fit.

around £80 for a cv joint to buy from euro, you could get 30% ordering online plus fitting charge

just wait until it comes off, no need to panic just yet

Thanks zollaf. I just wondering does it really necessary to replace the whole driveshaft or does the garage just trying to rip me off. They quoted me £255 for replacing the inner cv joint today and will tell me does my car need to replace the driveshaft or not tomorrow.

to change an inner cv you need to remove the shaft, then faff about getting covered in cv grease putting a new joint on, then refit the shaft. changing the whole shaft means you miss out the fitting a new cv joint bit, thus saving you some labour and getting you a new outer cv joint and shaft as well which will inevitably fail soon. so no, its not trying to rip you off, its actually saving you some money.. suggest you take some beer down there as an apology for doubting them ...
