A close family member is considering a MK4 Golf with the old 110 TDI engine as a runabout/winter car. Is there anything untoward with these engines or is the general consensus of it being bulletproof true?

    Thnx.

Bullet proof. Mate of mine whacked 286k miles on one before selling it for just over a grand.

I had a 1.9 90ps AGR in a year 2000 SEAT, it was a great engine, in the old diesel engine sense of the word, wastegate turbo, easy to do the timing belt etc. Only thing I had to do to it in around 100,000miles was new temp sender, AMF meter, two timing belts and water pump.
