    Hi,

Collecting my new car next weekend. A6 Avant S Line 62 plate and will be upgrading to 19" wheels from the factory 18s.

Just after some advice on the above 2 tyres.

    Prices:

    Uniroyal £99.95

    Kuhmo's £89.80... From Camskills

I do mainly motorway driving with a 70mile daily roundtrip commute to work.

Obviously need to have good grip but also want them to have a good wear rate and not too noisy.

Or if there are any others you would recommend at this price point?

    Cheers
    Athers

Wow, how did he manage that? How many miles did the tyre cover before this happened?

He didn't do anything , others have experienced the same .

Kumho are off our list forever , he invested wisely in Michelin Pilot Sport 3 .

Get the Uniroyal Rainsport 3 .

Do they have rim protectors ?

    19" isn't an upgrade , only one upshot - looks .

Loss of mpg , torque , bhp , handling , ride comfort and acceleration through increased unsprung mass .

More expensive tyres and where tyre and alloy damage issues are caused as 19"+ start to disagree with our less than perfect roads .

Sorry, upgrade wrong word 'change to 19s'. Purely personal preference, I know everyone is different regarding size of wheels, but let's get back to the tyre subject.

Both have rim protection but need to find out how much.

Goodyear F1 3s also on my shortlist.

You have scared me off the Kumho's with that horror story as I have a 2year old and another one due next month, so their safety is paramount.

Some reviews of Rainsport say the sidewall is a bit soft which would worry me if used on a 2 tonne car.

I have the RainSport 3's on my 19's and they are doing the job just fine. I ran them on my previous A3 and they outlasted The other brands I tried (Goodyear, Vredestein, and Michelin)

they have good grip in all conditions, are quiet and comfortable. I run them at 40psi all round and my car has the S Line suspension and is way more comfortable than my A3 ever was running on 18's and S Line suspension

    Soft sidewalls ?

    Go XL .

The Kumho has one of the smallest and pointless rim protectors at 3.5mm .

Cheers mate, nice to hear from someone running them on the s line suspension and on 19s. How many miles have you got out of them so far and how much tread roughly remaining?

Yeah I know regardless of the tyre they need to be XL for this car. Don't worry, I've already ruled out the Kuhmo's.

Was just some user reviews of rainsport's online said they found the sidewall to be a bit soft and looked as if slightly flat still when done to recommend psi so they just over inflated them a bit to resolve this.
