    Hi...

Both of my cooling fans stopped working at the same time, VAG showing short to ground. I want to check the fuses but I have no idea where they are. Can anyone give me any information on where these may be located in the c7 models? I have a US left drive version, but I would think it would be similar. I assume the fuses are in the engine compartment, but I can t find them. Any help MUCH appreciated!

Ok, I found the box, its under the ECM, which is under the washer fluid reservoir, which is under the plenum chamber cover. Now to see if the cooling fan fuse/fuses are actually in there and if anything is blown. If anyone has a fuse/relay diagram of the connections in that box, please share. Thanks!

If you have an owners manual, I suggest you have a look. As far as I know there are fuses in the luggage compartment, engine bay and (on your car) in the drivers side dash panel. There's a list of the fuses in the manual as well.

Thanks Scott... Yes, the owner's manual has great info on the two passenger compartment fuse boxes (dash left/right) as well as the trunk (right side storage compartment). It has no information on the engine bay fuses or relays, unfortunately. I would need to find someone with a service manual for that, apparently.

    thanks,

Thanks to everyone who checked this thread. Found the fuses, both 40A, both blown. Replaced with new 40 amp fuses and both fans operating properly, still working after about an hour. Maybe just a perfect storm of electrical overload, I literally got a call on bluetooth, closed the sunroof and auto-up on the windows, turned on the a/c, and had been sitting stationary in traffic in the heat for 15 minutes. Going to reset the codes with vag/com and see how it goes. If anyone needs help finding these fuses, let me know. They were not in the e-box under the ECM and washer reservoir. They were in a separate panel under the crossmember. Just about the most difficult location possible.

I'll post pics tonight, but it's exactly in the rear middle of the engine compartment under the plenum cover and then under the aluminum crossmember. You need a special tool to get the crossmember off,, not sure of the technical term but it's a spline style male socket. I can post more tonight when I get to the office where the pics are.

Peter, hopefully these two pics will help you find the cooling fan fuses:

    find sml.jpg

    locationsm.jpg

The day after I changed the fuses was 85 degrees. I spent about 2 hours idling with the air on both as a test and because I had some field work to do, no problems with fans or fuses. This weekend I went to michigan an sat in traffic for at least an hour with no problems. So far so good, but I bought a few spares just in case (fuse part no N10424906) get them from AutohausAZ, $0.50 each. Audi wanted $10 each and VW sold them to me for $3.70 each. Hard to find too, two local audi dealers didn't have them.

Good luck, let me know if you have any questions.
