    HI all,
    I’ve just bought my second Passat, my wife will have my B5 1.9TDI and I’ve now got a B6 2008 2.0TDI 140BHP Highline estate, 112K on the clock.
    I spent quite a bit of time at the dealers checking everything worked and couldn't find any problems, car looks straight, is in in very good condition. Dealer is putting it in for a new cam belt before I collect it.
    My question; is there anything I should check when I get it home e.g. I know my B5 was liable to blocked drains under battery causing water to get into the passengers footwell
    Also I would like to service it so what oil should I use, again experience from my B5 suggests getting the right oil is VERY important..
    And lastly, now I have two VWs in the family I am considering getting some diagnostic software – what is recommended ?

    because there are a lot of common problems. oil pump drives, electric handbrake, same plenum problem but with far more expensive consequences, the list is long. crasher, our resient guru and owner of c&r enterprises , doesnt have many good words about them. really best avoided. look in the relevant section for some of the faults. just hope yours is a manual not a dsg.

    Ok. Yes its a manual. Its also the later comon rail engine (CBAB?) Which I thought was better.

    May have the inferoir 77mm hex key oil pump drive .





    My father has one , and the wallet has been well and truly raped.

    It will never be as reliable as a 1.9 tdi B5 , B5.5 .

    yes, the common rail is better than the older injectors
    Audi 80 tdi avant with 360,000 miles...

    Common rail isn't immune from the odd 77mm Terminator .

    oh sorry, i was only talking about the injectors, the rest of the engine is as bad as the others

    Never seen a problem on this part of the forum with the common rail engine. To the best of my knowledge it's completely different to the PD engine that caused so many problems.

    But I'd certainly take a good look at the electronic handbrake. Also, at that mileage look for gummed up turbo problems, that's an issue common to all VAG diesels eventually and it's easy to check for. As for diagnostic software, go look at the VCDS portion of the forum.
