MK3 Golf 1.4 ABD Coolant Temperature Sensor (CTS)

I have got a few on going problems with our Golf (have got other posts) trying to sort them out one at a time.

Does anyone know what the resistance readings and Volts should be on a black 4 pin coolant sensor.

I have found several diagrams and bits on the web :
Pins 2 - 4 Voltage reads 10v - says it should be 5v, resistance reads 1780ohms says it should be 2500ohms at the current temperature.
Pins 1 -3 Voltage reads 5v and resistance reads 2800ohms

Is this right or is something wrong.

Temp gauge shows car running cold and running rich

Which side does of the sensor does the gauge and which reports to the ECU ( if anyone knows the pin numbers that would really help ).

go to vw and buy a new one, chances are its updated spec anyway.

I think its now green in colour, but I might be wrong

Many thanks - I got a new one from TPS, I think it is ok any may be the wiring but wanted to be sure.
