Hi guys this is my first ever post on a car forum, I hope I have followed all the correct procedures, I need help please, I am mechanically minded, and have fixed loads of cars in my time, but I’m not familiar with ECUs & all these sensors going wrong.

My Audi A3 1.8T Sport (2001 150hp AUM engine) just failed its MOT on emissions & ESP light.

    Here’s the emission failure details:

    --------------------
02 Exhaust emissions carbon monoxide content at idle excessive (7.3.D.4)
03 Exhaust emissions carbon monoxide content after 2nd fast idle excessive (7.3.D.3)
04 Exhaust emissions lambda reading after 2nd fast idle outside specified limits (7.3.D.3)

The Mot tester said it’s running too rich, he revved the nuts off it for ages to try to warm it up but it still didn’t pass.
I have attached the emissions statement that details how far it was out by, can anyone help me trouble shoot this?

I have bought but not fitted yet the following:
Service kit + oil change (new air/oil/petrol filters)
    MAF sensor
New thermostat – it hardly ever gets near 90’
    Engine flush & injector cleaner.

    Here's my ESP failure details
    ----------------------
01 Electronic stability system warning lamp indicates a fault (3.4.1c)
I have attached image <A3 G200 error code 01423> from the MOT station – I assume this means I need to replace the G200 lateral sensor – is that correct? and if so does it need to be calibrated afterwards?
    -----------------

Also I just bought a cheap fault code scanner, when I used it DTC error code 17511 is showing - is this related to the emissions fail? The front lambda sensor was only replaced 6 weeks ago because it was chugging at mid-range revs - do I need a rear one now?
It's also had a new engine temp transmitter and one ignition coil repaired due to wires exposed creating a misfire.

The EMS dashboard light is also on, but it did not fail the MOT on it, is this related to anything?

Also, I was think of getting it remapped to 195hp - would this help at all?

    Please help meeeeee !!!

Wow no help. I'll try a different forum I think. Thanks for the help!?

I replaced the G200 sensor for 25 quid off ebay. local VAG quoted £150 for part and 2 hours labour taking it to £250 + (not inc vat) TOOK ME LESS THAN 30 MINS.

wow, dont get grumpy.. its a free forum with free help. if you were paying then you could get grumpy, but you are not..
anyway, yes, you need a new g200 sensor by the looks, but check the wiring and connection first. clear the code , see if it comes straight back or takes time.
from your co readings i would say the cat is dead. its not really running rich , just looks like the cat is doing nothing. well, 2.76 is a tad high but if that was the first run and the engine was too cold then its ok. might be worth dropping the cat and seeing if there is actually a cat in there.

Hi Zollaf, it wasn't a cryptic message and I'm not ungrateful, "We shall see" meant I'll order a catalytic converter and get it fitted and lets see if its the cat as you suggested. So I replaced the catalytic converter, and that has not fixed my emissions problem. I also replaced the pre-cat lambda sensor with a Bosch one, as advised by my local Audi Specialist (previous one was generic) and that has not fixed it either. I now have 4 fault codes instead of 2.
