Glow plug light flashing and loss of power

Hey guys.

I have a 2.0 Audi A6 C6 Multitronic Gearbox with BRE engine. (140 bhp remapped to 170 and DPF removed )

Today on the way home from work on the motorway while at a steady speed, the glow plug light started flashing and i noticed a loss in power. I pulled over on the hard shoulder and was going to limp it to my mechanic, suddenly after about 10 mins of limp mode, the car came back to life.

When my mechanic scanned it with a vag tool, it said something about the EGR value shorting out, mentioned it was sporadic and check for leaking along the loom. The wiring all appears to be fine and my mechanic cleared the fault and said see how it goes. (hence i dont have the exact fault code)

Just wondering what you guys think this is.

My mechanic said if it happens again just replace the EGR value

im assuming the EGR valve needs replacing?

I would say it's a faulty EGR valve, and will need replacing. They are a known failure item, and with an EGR failure the car may go into limp mode.

I thought as much. Any ideas on a good source for these? Does brand matter? ECP sell for varying prices. Between £150 and £250?

I have seen brand new ones on ebay as cheap as £80
