    Hello All

I have been dreaming about an Rs6 Avant purchase for a number of years, infact i was thinking about the earlier C5 but have decided that i will go down the C6 route

house sale and zero chance of getting a mortgage (for the amount i need to buy in london) means i will have cash sitting around in a bank acct, as interest rates for savings are so low i may as well spend it (some of it at least) and spend it on something i will get a great deal of pleasure from

    so on that basis

what do i need to look out for

i know brakes can be big money on these compared to a standard A6

i also know that the C5 has suspension troubles

so what are the C6 Rs6 avant achilles heels

Ive had a look at some over the weekend on auto trader and ebay

    i think i can find a fairly low mileage 70,000-80,000 2008/2009 for about 23000

most if not all i looked at has similar numbers of owners and full service, i guess if you can afford a rs6 avant you dont scrimp on service

    looking forward to your info

    kind regards

    Michael

Can't comment on the technical questions about the car but when I was looking for my A6 Allroad I made a decision to only buy from an Audi main dealer as they had ( have?) a 2 year full mechanical warranty which gives a great deal of peace of mind when buying something big, expensive and complex. Good luck!

this actualy looks like it could be a good option

Audi Swindon have a 2009 with 90k on the clock, more miles than i wanted but price wise seems reasonable, i need to confirm what they offer in terms of warranties compared to a second hand car dealer

I you have the money for the repairs then go for it, but any major engine problems will costs ten's of thousands of pounds to either replace/repair. There have been a few S6 owners that have been well & truly stuffed with cars they cannot afford to repair. I would get the best warranty you can (Audi Dealer would be the best).

tyres won't last long if you use the car as audi intended, nor will discs and pads. best to price things like this up before going ahead, especially if you like the look of the wavy discs, which look awesome..

the car will be a second car and only used on 2 or 3 days of the week, even then it will be local journeys and distance will be minimal

i will have a stash of cash for repairs but hope to get a car with new brakes and good tyres (there is one currently on Autotrader which has new brake pads and discs) i know these are mega expensive so will ensure i look out for this (1 less item to pay for)

tyres seems cheap enough these days and I'm sure i can look after them for the most part, like i say the mileage will be small

im not sure i know fully what I'm getting into, but I'm almost 37 and won't have this opportunity again, yes its a mid life crisis but i dont care, i need an Rs6 Avant in my life, i will have cash from house sale (in Manchester) and won't be able to buy in london (where i now live) so I'm going to take a small portion out and treat myself

im not sure i will still be married after it but thats also a risk i will take, at the end of the day i dont need that kind of negativity in my life anyway, Right?
