    Hello all

    First post for myself here.
I recently bought an Audi A4 B7 with the what I am told is the more reliable engine (1.9tdi)
the car has 100k miles which is excellent for its year and serviced with premium parts always
I recently have had a steam train like car than a diesel run around.
the car when running pours out the coolant and pushes steam out the back for 5-10 ft.
The head is fine there is no overheating. full power, starts effortlessly etc etc
From speaking to people i have been pointed towards the egr cooler which i am inclined to get rid of due to the failure rate.
What would be the issues if i connected the feeder pipe and return pipe together. Engine runs poorly? Long term effects?
I intend to leave the egr and not blank off. Is this doable without a cooler?
PS cold air no hot air from the matrix since.

    thanks
    paul

bypassing the cooler is acceptble to rule it out as the fault, or confirm it is faulty. you can pressure test them as well. as for running without it, why would you, its there for a reason. its part of the egr system so either bin the whole egr system or fit a new cooler . incidentally, if you do find its faulty, you would then get exhaust gas leaking out the ends where there was coolant pipes, so these would also need blanking off.

Thanks for the info. Going to try get this tested and today or over the weekend and see if this is the issue. Airing on the side of replacing it and leaving egr in situe
When replaced would it be worth assuming the heat from the aircon will return?

    thanks for your help
