My alarm has started going off after the car has been sat on the drive for a while. Nothing in car moving and no wind outside. Windows up etc etc.

Has gone off once before a few days ago and was cancelled when I unlocked and locked the car.

Tonight it did the same but each time I lock the car it goes off again. Don't thing the alarm has ever gone off without me setting it off 8 years ago to try it.

I tried pressing the interior alarm button on the interior (RHS). It lights up and then when you lock the car it is activated in as much as it deactivates the interior sensors until unlocked and locked again. Alarm still went off so gave this area of thought up.

I have unlocked the car to stop it going off and alarm has stopped for a bit.

Thinking aloud if I unlock the car and don't open a door it will lock itself but not sure if the alarm arms. Maybe it doesn't hence this solution working.

After 20 minutes I have now locked the doors. Nothing sounding for 5 minutes.

    Clearly something is up.

    Any thoughts?

    Cheers and happy new year

    Macker

Cheers guys. It stopped over night. We went out to the shops earlier in the rain - very wet day. When we came home it kept going off again. I have unlocked the car, opened and closed a door and left it unlocked for now. Seems to be quiet.

Battery never changed I think...and I have had the car since it was 6 months old so it is 8.5 years old.

Could be a leak but nothing obvious. With all that rain anything could be shorting!

"tailgate lock unit" - interesting as the flap that stops water and dirt falling down it came apart a few years ago so that area (gaping hole) is more prone to water ingress although that is the car body part rather than the boot part and I assume the electrics are in the boot part.

Needs a service so will get them to look at it at garage.

8½ years old is good. Even for a Moll, the OEM supplied from factory. Mine showed signs of giving out at six years old, went on to give another year jump starting neighbour's mundane Mondeo thru that wretched snowed-in winter.

Get it changed. I went for a Bosch S5008. Delivered via eBay. Sutton Car Factors AFAICR.

Sorry to jump an oldish thread but I’m having the same issue. I should have vcds from tomorrow and taking the car to a garage on Monday, my alarm has been going off recently and my battery seems to be draining.

Definitely not oldish! My alarm is still going off. At my mates garage they couldn't get the alarm to go off. The codes showed an alarm fault but nothing else. Typically it went off a day later and is still dodgy. I either don't lock it or lock it and then lock again which I think disables the audible alarm. This means only the lights flash and the alarm is silent.

Not good. My mate said a new alarm unit was a few hundred. I can't remember the number but though I would leave it. To be honest I haven't got much choice now and will have to get them to change the whole unit as I can't keep leaving it unlocked.

My battery seems solid as a rock and starts without problem.

Keep me posted and I will update this post when I know more.

I get fed up of the wife saying "is that you alarm going off" yet again!
