    Hello all,

I've recently retrofitted cruise control in my 03 Golf but I can't get it working. I bought the kit from VW Teeside who, I believe, are fairly reputable.

Using Foxy's guide from Google and VW Teeside's own instructions I've managed to get everything installed. However, I can't get the cruise control to activate whilst I'm driving.

I know that wiring the stalk controls to the bulkhead incorrectly is a common mistake but I've triple checked it and I'm 99% sure that it's correct.

I've activated cruise control on the ECU using my VCDS, which is a genuine Ross Tech cable and software. When I switch the stalk controls to 'on' the cruise control symbol on the clocks illuminates.

I've also tried diagnosing a problem using the Measuring Blocks that show when the clutch pedal is pressed, when the brake pedal is pressed etc. but things seem to be working as they should. Values change when the pedals are pressed and also when using the stalk controls.

So, I can't understand why it isn't working. Anyone able to help? Thanks in advance.

Can you post your full vehicle details and a complete VCDS autoscan on here?

Which part numbers did the kit and loom have, where did you wire the loom to (directly into ECU plug)?
What MWBs did you look at for switch conditions?

Sorry, been having a manic week so I've only just got round to this. What exactly do you mean by full vehicle details?

    Here's the auto-scan:

The part number for the stalk is 8L0953513J and for the stalk-to-bulkhead loom is

Using the Measuring Blocks in the Engine controller, group 6 shows the pedal switches and group 22 shows the cruise control stalk switches.

Auto scan answers the question for full vehicle details (MY, engine code, etc).

You have enabled it in the ECU with the activation code?

Yes, I've enabled it. I've tried disabling and re-enabling it again but with no success.

    Resurrecting an old thread here...

I decided to pull everything apart again today and triple-check that I had it all installed properly. I've followed the instructions to the letter; everything is wired correctly and connected properly. But the cruise control still won't work - it doesn't seem to activate when I try to set the speed.

    Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Does the green cruise control check light come on in the dashboard (assuming your VDO speedo should have one)?

As I remember there cruise should get power from terminal 75?

Yeah, the symbol illuminates in the dash. The only thing that appears to not be working is actually setting a speed.

What does the readiness code now say [not ready on some in above auto scan]?

That is the only thing I could imagine throwing it off.

Sorry to hear that you’re having problems with your cruise control.

I fitted a cheap and cheerful Ł20 kit to my Seat Leon TDI a couple of weeks ago and thankfully it worked first time.

I spend a lot time researching the possible problems before fitting the kit. They normally seem to be around not getting the power from the fuse box or the connections in the relay box. Either putting the pins on the wrong holes or not unlocking the purple catches first.

You’re getting the light on the dashboard when you switch on, that would point to the stalk getting power and at least one of the wires connected correctly in the relay box. If you’re certain that the other wires are connected correctly then I would look again at the pedal switches. I would be looking at the clutch switch, since if the brake switch fails the brake lights won’t work correctly.

Teeside VW do have a good reputation, but it is possible the stalk or wiring are faulty. If you get no joy with the pedal switches I would use a multi meter to check for a signal from stalk to the relay block when you press the set button. Then possibly check the connection between the relay box and the ECU.

Also have you looked at this thread?
