    Hi guys
I've got a issue with my b6 in which the turbo cuts out and car goes into limp mode under load on the motorway around 70 to 80 mph.
Flashing glow plug comes on when the error kicks in. It says turbo underboost p0299

I've been reading a couple of forums and people have used mr muscle oven cleaner to get rid of all the gunk inside the turbo by spraying it inside the turbo in the exhaust side, leaving it for a couple hours and then taking the car for a hard drive.

Has anyone tried this on the b6?

Thought id add this for future reference .Engine code on the sticker in the boot says CBDC and on timing belt cover says CBD.

long running debate on this forum, I haven't done it but apparently mr muscles corrodes the shaft damages the oil seals and fills your exhaust with oil, giving you an even bigger mess to sort out when the turbo finally needs replacing.
There are others here who seem to think it's an acceptable way to clean it but personally I wouldn't do it.

the hard drive is the secret, not the oven cleaner. if you had ever stripped a turbo you would know that the area that needs cleaning won't be touched by the mr muscle as its in a seperate chamber.

No I haven't stripped a turbo. Seems to have worked for quite a few people though. Been driving car hard for a while now but still no change.

You don't say what engine you have but are you sure its not the actuator at fault here - there was a taxi driver posted the other day and it was his actuator that was knackered. I'll try to find link to the thread

I think it's quite difficult to actually drive a car hard, long enough and hot enough other than on a track or risking getting speed pinged, to be effective at keeping the turbo and exhaust clean.
I know of some long high climbs in the north of Scotland that I can really work the engine hard consistently over several miles ( A9 south climbing out of Inverness, fully loaded and towing a boat, then again heading north or south up to Slochd summit, the engine is really grafting and feels like a greyhound off the leash after a run like that. M6 up to Shap summit is another good climb.
I've worked with large and small generator sets that have spent hundreds of hours running loaded lightly, and fouled up exhausts, then getting them on full load to the point where the manifold and turbo are glowing cherry red, blows a whole load of soot and sparks out the exhaust, but that higher load can be applied consistently over long periods of time.
A lot of the trouble is that most diesel cars don't get anywhere near enough load on them for long enough to keep them clean, they're up against it with short runs and stop start driving.

You can't drive a car hard if it keeps invoking limp mode surely. Test the turbo actuator and if still good and holding vacuum then remove strip and clean the turbo and hope the seals haven't been Mr Muscled to oblivion! You can't remove the offending deposits from the VNT mechanism with spray alone. Or exchange the turbo for a refurbished one for around £300.

Thanks for the replies. It's a 2.0tdi Bluemotion.
Engine code on the sticker in the boot says CBDC and on timing belt cover says CBD.

This limp mode only happens around 70 to 80 and I have only noticed it on the motorway.

Locally the turbo seems to kick in as normal....well what I think is normal

How do you test the actuator?

Could a EGR insufficient flow be a cause of this as I've also got that error coming up P401. I've cleaned the egr and the throttle body ..still same issue.
Replaced the egr and still same issue.
Some guys have said it could be egr cooler fault.
Not.really sure what is going on with this car...seems to be causing problem after problem

Check your fault code. Turbo underboost will not be caused by a build up of carbon in the turbo so the turbo will not need cleaning. Underboost is usually a faulty actuator or vacuum leak. Depending on which actuator you have, a faulty actuator may give an error code. The fact that you have an egr fault and a turbo fault suggests that you have a vacuum pipe leak.
