    His,

I have been playing with my new toys and came to the audio settings. There are controls for Bass and Subwoofer level. Maybe I'm being stupid but what's the difference?

The bass adjustment is the normal boost or reduction of low frequencies, the A6 has a separate dedicated subwoofer in the boot with its own control

To add to what John said; The bass adjustment adjusts the woofers, woofers are kind of jack of all trades in the bass world, but master of none, especially at the low end of its frequency. The subwoofer is the master of the real low frequency only, and gives a much better base response than the low end of the woofer. Resulting in more control of the low frequency quality that takes over from the slightly lower quality of the woofer. This low bass travels further, therefore can come from the boot to fill the cabin.

The subwoofer allows you to inflict damage on your spine - crank it up and you will see what I mean.

Thanks for the replies. I get the difference between woofers and subwoofers but I don't understand why there is a bass control and a subwoofer control. Surely when you increase the bass the subwoofer will be used more to achieve this?

Maybe think of it as treble = high frequency, bass = quite low frequency, subwoofer = very low frequency, without an overlap?

Remember, there are numerous speakers in the car that produce bass (hence people referring to woofers) - 1 in each door IIRC. The 'bass' controls the general level of bass in the music (i.e. how much bass comes out of each woofer and the sub).

The 'sub' control only adjusts the level of the sub.

Increasing bass doesn't just turn up the subwoofer, and turning up the subwoofer alone doesn't increase the general level of bass coming out of the system. Hence there are the 2 options.

Saying that, BOSE doesn't have a separate sub control (but I wish it did).

Yes, I wish my Bose did have a separate control for the sub. I find it a bit lacking at low volumes.

Turn the volume up a bit and the sub influence is huge, but the low volume sound isn't a patch on the Bose I had in my C6 S-Line.

Or, the bass level is set so you can hear, the sub level is so your neighbours can hear as well!!
