Soo, Sunday night I was looking up options for oil pump swaps, my cars on 96k, thought it would be an idea to change it before its a problem, looking up parts and kits, in the car to work yesterday morning, low oil pressure light. Switched it off immediately, hopefully didn't do any damage to oil dependent parts, but it spat the chain out

I'm the 5th owner, not had the car long, will I have any luck from Audi?

No luck with Audi. Just fix yourself. There is a firm in Northern Ireland who do a conversion kit or fix, they're called Powermax Engineering, maybe worth a call.

I saw them, their kits look great, and I emailed them, however my preferred choice was to ditch the balance shafts all together, managed to get a full kit of ALH engine parts, pump, chain, cog wheels, tensioner, all the bolts, an Allen key head bolt to plug the balance shaft oil port, and windage tray, Inc delivery to the hotel my mum's in this week in America, £200. I've only had the car a few weeks too. The dealer I bought from had a free 3 month warranty from a warranty company, so hopefully they cover the cost of the Labour and parts, if not, I was considering doing the job anyway

You have a free 6 month warranty called the Sale of Goods Act 1979 the garage is liable for all the work .

This has now been updated to an improved version and protection .

Interestting. I didn't think cars came under that? Or I assumed they didn't... I'll see how this warranty company go first. I told the garage about the warranty, he said they'll get on to them about it. Fingers crossed

If the warranty company doesn't play ball the responsibility lies with the seller ( dealer ) .

Warranties and their conditions and fees are a smoke screen for a dealers true obligation of a no cost to you fix .

I sell a genuine (not inc crank sprocket) and aftermarket inc crank sprocket kit for these both with 1 year parts warranty. I am not a sponsor, so am probably sailing close to the wind mentioning that, but i will say there are cheaper options a fraction of the price to the gear driven upgrade and unless you plan on keeping the car for another 7-10 years, its arguable that the original design (all hex drive shafts are now solid) whilst not perfect, will suffice given many have already lasted 6-10 years.

I bought the car on the 7th of august as a reliable car for commuting to my new dream job which I've finally got, spent a good bit of money on it, then this...
So I ended up ordering this kit. Balance Shaft Delete Kit for BHW Passat - KermaTDI
I don't necessarily plan on keeping the car for many years, but I need there to be no problems. Ever. Lol
Of course I didn't think to ask who the manufacturer of the parts was, but I had to order quick... My mums in Philadelphia til Saturday, so had to be done quick. I've asked the question now though.
I decided the balance shaft was an unnecessary complication, and I hope I've made the right choice. In this case the chain has snapped, but if I change that, I could find the hex shaft is on its way out too. May as well change it, and while there's a £200 option, I don't fancy paying to repair a system I don't like in the first place while there's a simpler option
Might even gain some torque too!
