It could be anything, you need a fault code scan to know why the light is on. What is the cars year and engine type code?

Car details will help as would a VCDS (VagCom) scan report but to clarify the warning lights on a Tdi, the yellow glow plug preheating light is also a general engine fault light at any other time. The engine shaped yellow light is usually an engine emission fault warning light to do with exhaust gases.

From experience I would say you have a high probability of that being a simple faulty DPF pressure sensor. These are relatively cheap even genuine at £65 and very easy to change being on the upper rear right of the engine (the T30 bolt is awkward to get out though), apart from needing to be calibrated after fitting. The sensor changed slightly in late 2009 so it may be that your car was built a little earlier than you think and so you have the 076 906 051 A instead of the later 076 906 051 B. You can get these sensors cheaper from all sorts of places made by Bosch, Febi, Vemo etc etc and I keep the Febi ones in stock for £48.

Thanks, Just been to local indi BOSCH to arrange scan, Their crystal ball suggested DPF may need a good blowout so I done just over 100 miles at 2500 to 3000 rpm, But it hasn't cleared problem.

I will report the results of the code, and thanks for your suggestions

    Cheers
    Mike

Didn't they do a scan before they told you that? If the DPF was at all blocked, it would specifically inform you of this on the dash.

Once the warning light is active the car may not do the regenerations. Also your fuel level needs to be high enough as below a certain level the regenerations will not occur. If the active soot load reaches 55% of its limit the DPF light will illuminate (yellow rectangular exhaust back box shaped light). Any faulty part should be replaced and the fault codes should be cleared first before you try the "Italian Tune Up" otherwise may be a wasted exercise and wasted fuel.
