Hello Folks, I recently replaced the master and slave clutch cylinders on my 2006 Bg passat and after finishing the work the car steering lock just clicks and I get NO dash lights except for a yellow steering wheel and miliage and time, I inadvertently disturbed the terminal block on the steering lock when accessing the top nut on the clutch pedal assy to the point that it became dislodged when getting my socket through the wiring en route to the nut, I put it all back together and the steering lock just constantly clicks and shifts back and forward but doesent unlock and then just beeps before everything on the dash switching OFF.

I should day that a year ago I dismanteled and lubricated the steering lock switches after suffering the usual problem but it had been fine and was working perfectly before the clutch cylinder gave up the ghost, I feel that I may have damaged the steering lock pcb terminal after seeing that I had literally dislodged the terminal pins and connector with my socket and I have re seated the pins and actually soldered the base of all pins but to no avail, I am hoping that I have not shorted the pcb but looking at the sheer amaount of stuff that is un reachable by VCD I am wondering if I may have fused a relay terminals or blown a fast fuse that is hidden somewhere.

any advice would be really appreciated, below is an autoscan log that says that lots of stuff cannot be reached, due to the terminal 30 being open circuit (i read that this is the positive terminal to the starter) I am baffled a bit too.

    thanks in advance.

I don't know when you last used your VCDS but this early version 908 used to be sold with eBay cheeep Chinese fake dongles.
Just looked at the first log I saved and that was:
    Thursday,15,October,2009,17:02:37:48313
    VCDS Version: Release 908.0
    Data version: 20090911

Was this an eBay VCDS you bought? If it's the genuine Ross-Tech then connect your laptop to the internet and get updated! Now at version 15-odd. If not the genuine VCDS then try finding someone local to you that will do a scan for beer tokens? Should be a few there. Or from:
    http://https://maps.google.co.uk/map...5cfcb6158e0447

If you're still getting the same results then you may have disturbed the CANbus wiring that also goes to the IMMO plug socket arrangement down there. After making sure your wiring's now correct, have you tried going into each module and clearing the fault listed before removing key from IGN, locking up, waiting 10 mins for car to enter sleep mode. And then checking again?

When you did your clutch and the wire repairs, was the battery disconnected?

Thankyou for the reply Richard, I bought the VCDS about 5 or 6 years ago from a mobile motor diagnostic bloke who I called out nearly every other day after my windows would wind themselves down and the boot would open on its own and doors lock and not open, he was on my Christmas card list if you know what I mean. I have it installed on an old panasonic tough book with no network or internet but I am aware that the software is not the full registered version.

The link in your post wont load unfortunately, however, I didnt disconnect the battery when I replaced the clutch master and slave cylinders but I did disconnect the battery when removing the steering column to get at the dislodged wiring plug, everything was fine before I started the job, I know that I had knocked the steering lock plug with my extension bar to the extent that one of the larger two pins actually was pulled out of the pcb although I have refitted it and run solder around them since they were a push fit only.

I will check the wiring around the area, and try and clear all the faults but I am tempted to take the module off the steering lock connect it up and operate the switches by hand seeing that the steering lock can be heard constantly trying to operate the switches.

thankyou again for the reply I appreciate it.

Just a quick update, I loosely refitted the column and connected the instrument cluster and airbag up and then connected the PCB module that I removed from the steering lock without the gubbins and I operated the micro switch by hand to kid the thing into thinking that it was unlocked and the dash sprang into life, it appears that the micro switches may be at fault again.

    Thankyou again for the help.

Final update and solution, being a bit of a nob I must have also dislodged the cover of the steering lock and thus triggering the anti tamper mechanism, I took a little video of the operation and how it was jamming and stopping the lever from making contact with the micro switches, after taking the lock off the column and resetting the spring and slider it works fine now.

Something in this editor is sticking and won't let me get out of URL paste mode. Just tried the above and it should be alright now. But had to change editor...

Glad you got everything sorted! Do take care with cloned VCDS/VAG-COM dongles. Have been twice out to Passats where owners have used these eBay things only to find spurious weird (hi-ASCII) characters in the codings of various modules.
