    Hi,
I'm interested in buying a diesel Highline estate.
Any advice on what to look for would be appreciated.
Also what is the difference between a high line and a high line plus ? All i can see so far is the plus has sat nav.
    Many thanks
    Bart

My Highline saloon came with the sat nav as standard but the next door neighbours brothers estate didn't. I doubt if VW even know what is standard by the size of the manuals and their contents. I believe that the tailgates are prone to rust on the estate and make sure that the rear LED light clusters are operating fully. I am on my 3rd set.

Getting a TDi CC of MY'09 or beyond would avoid the time when dodgy-by-design oil pumps were being used.

Personally, I'd get another 2.0L petrol tFSI, the few recalls I've had have been fixed by VW free of charge -- the one that's not FOC (but is in n. America) is simples to swap or even fix. You've got the flexibility too to uprate as far as even 300bhp (Stage III) I've only gone to Stage I but that still gives me 232bhp on dyno (190 stock) You won't get the in town MPG though -- mine's 23-25MPG with up to 46 light foot long run (usually 40 - 42 motorway at 60 Officer) MPG's not changed at Stage I. The TSI engine's even better with cam chain not belt.

I didn't like my one year with a B5.5 manual coz of doing London rush hour commute twice daily. Been happy with Tiptronic. You can use a sort of pre-select on it either with stick or paddles -- DSG is better as Tip doesn't have a dual clutch but does have a torque convertor. Both require ATF and filter change every 40k

Common woes are body rust -- you may have to argue to impliment the VW 12-year anti corrosion warranty. The terms have tightened with the CC vs the previous B6 -- especially around rear VRM lights (electrolysis of light unit to chassis)

Others actually with a TDi will add their own comments

Otherwise, you'll find: "when they're good, they're very very good" Let us know how you get on?
Ask seller whether they'll allow a VCDS Autoscan to be taken prior to sale to see whether there's any faults recorded?

Terms "highline" and "highline plus" were used with the B5.5 AFAICR -- the only "highline" term for the B6 AFAIK refers to the MFI being half height or full height (centre binnacle-mounted Multi-Function Indicator) These can be uprated from red half to red full height or to white with some fiddling but do-able

I have recently bought exactly that (see my signature). I do 20k a year pretty much all M way with a little town running in between. Still only on second tank of fuel so gonna work out an average mpg.
Thoughts so far are very good although for some reason the seat edges seem too close and feels like I have something in my back pocket that I find annoying but that's being picky ( no I don't have a fat ****). It's full leather with the red MFI but would like to change if it's not expensive and no sat nav (gutted) but again may change latter.
If you do the miles to warrant one then it's a really good family car and ain't as noisy as my old mondeo.

    Good luck.

2008 was the changeover year from the troublesome PD engines to common rail (CR). I've never seen a single issues on the forum with a CR engine and it is more economical plus better power delivery so that's what I'd be sure to get. There were still some PD engines on Highline trim and one or two were stock that made it through to 2009 registrations so check carefully.

There's nothing particularly special to look out for on the Highline compared with the other trims, so just look out for EPB issues and all the other usual stuff. I'd strongly recommend not getting a car with the VW Premium Bluetooth kit. It doesn't work with a lot of phones, the technology is great in theory but in practice it's poorly implemented and nothing drove me nuts more.

    Thanks guys.
Teflon. When I'm speaking to a seller , how would he/she know if the engine is a Pd or common rail engine if a 2009 model. ?
Im assuming it won't say anything like that on the logbook. Maybe by looking at the engine itself ?
i ask as I'm looking at a 2009 model tomorrow

To answer my own question... It's down to the engine codes
pre 2008 are PD. ...engine codes. BKD..BKP.
Post 2008 are Common Rail. Codes are CBAB , CBBB and similar
