Hi. Need to replace steering column lock module but want to know if it will only be VW who can program/code it. If not does anyone know of people who can do it in chesterfield or Sheffield area. Thanks

Depends on how you intend fixing the problem. If you change or get changed the two most likely components to have failed, the two micro switches, then no re-programing is needed. If you change the entire IMMO board at the bottom of the steering column then yes, it will have to be re-programed by VW which calls back data held in Germany. VW main agents have a fixed price deal for this, last I saw was £350. It was a free fix in n. America until July'13

If you’re anywhere near Northampton, many have used this firm to fix their steering lock problem:

And in Rainham, Essex RM13 8QT for the same price:

Thanks for that. Have already removed steering lock from column and cable tied it up out of the way. Have bought a new unit but can always get refund if the repair works. Cheera

Right. Had a go at lubricating mechanism inside lock module and having a general fiddle to make sure all contact are good etcetera. Refitted and was the same. So booked in with vertu vw in Mansfield who programmed new steering column module and programmed both keys for £120. I refitted the column module myself when got back home. So all in it cost £196 for new column lock module, programming and keys coding. Not too bad
