up until last week, my aircon was giving out plenty of hot air but when set to low was just still warmish. I knew I had a couple of the air vent flap motors go as well so I replaced these and at the same time, checked the pressure on the aircon system. The pressure was showing very low so I re gassed it with the halfords kit. I now have the opposite problem though. The cold air is ice cold but I can't get any hot air out of it. The flaps are all working correctly too so I'm not sure what could be causing this issue? It is occasionally giving a short blast of hot air when you turn the temp up but then it goes back to being cool. Anything I may have missed?

im pretty sure the flaps are all ok on both the passenger and drivers side. The thermostat was only replaced a couple of months back so I doubt it's that. Plus the fact it was blowing out hot air before I re gassed it and refitted the flap motors. I have since taken the motors back off and manually moved the flap levers but still don't get any hot air. Is it possible to over gas the air con and would this cause this problem?

Over gassing is as bad as having none so i don't think thats your problem because you're getting cold air I think you've got a flap stuck now the a/c is working it highlighted the heater, which flaps have you looked at? ps just read your original post again, with the ambient temp at the mo inside the car at about 25 deg your system wont be asking for heat.

I've had the glove box off and also the panel under the steering column to ensure that when the different vents are selected on the console, the flaps move correctly and also when hot/cold air is selected, the motors correctly move the corresponding flaps. So I'm pretty certain that is all working correctly.

Ah ok, so what you are saying then is if the ambient temp inside the car is quite warm already, then even turning the air con up to HI won't produce hot air? Is that correct? I didn't realise it worked like this?

If the stat is working and the temp gets up to 90 quickly you should be able to get heat if the control is set hi and aircon is off.Best to do this when ambien t is cool eg early or late windows open .Just check the pipes to the heater are hot too

just as an update. I've driven the car for about 2 hours this morning down the motorway. Whilst driving hard, hot air was coming out but when at a standstill, it returns to being cool again. Also, if I turn the air con off for a while and then turn it on whilst set to hi, I do get hot air straight away but after it has been running a few minutes it returns to cool. The pipe down by the footrest on the drivers side is hot and that flap opens and closes correctly when adjusting the temp between cold/hot. So do you think this is working properly then? Maybe I have got the wrong understanding of how it should work? I was thinking that if I have both the drivers and passenger side temps set to HI, no matter what the ambient temperature inside the cabin, the air con should produce hot air all the time? Sorry if I'm being dumb here.

No thats right if both set hi you should get some heat, its quite cool today so you should feel heat, just thought if you had set it to say 25 deg it wouldn't do much,if you're satisfied everything inside is working then there's only the stat waterpump or the matrix, the matrix do lose there efficiency and are a problem on these cars.

Ok thanks nevo. I will try giving the heater matrix a clean out and see if that helps. I've found a doc on line that shows how to do it so fingers crossed it will do the trick!

Still sounds like the stat .Was it a genuine one, cheap ones don't last. Its the pipes entering the bulkhead you should check and keep aircon off i.e.only econ button on.If the stat has failed it will be stuck open and it will take too long to get to 90
