    Hi,
I have been informed by NCT/MOT that a rear damper is not performing on NS left and needs replaced. After a day of research Im still not clear. Can anyone tell me if the rear shocks/dampers are only available as a dealer part or are they available spurious. Spurios options are coming up on eBay etc (with car specs enterd ok,but without actual photo of product), but I can not believe the price difference could be so great and the fact that the originals have a "damper adjustment valve" with cable connection.
Has anyone changed the rear shocks/dampers in their C6 Allroad? Was quoted €700 + VAT each by Audi dealer, so getting quite worried!
Any help woud be grearly appreciated. Car has 78k miles on clock.
    Thanks

Yes. From memory mine was about this much and certainly more than the hefty excess on my 3rd party warranty. Although slight misting on mine was only an MOT advisory, the warranty company agreed its replacement. I had intended to sell it, and this would have been a plus point since Audi warrant their work for 2 years. But I decided to keep it until this Autumn instead and I'm pleased to say its just passed an MOT with no advisories.

Can you post the link to the eBay sale? I got the same quotation in the local AD here in Greece. Mine have a slight leakage on both rear sides.

Sorry for late reply. The links on Ebay have turned out to be a non runner as even though they list a product for the A6 Allroad 4FH C6, the spurious shocks do not appear to have the "shock absorber damper adjustment valve". The only shock available with the damper valve is made by Monroe, so the options are:

    1 Buy from Audi Genuine
2 Buy online from OEM discount parts house in Germany ie Partacus.de
3 Buy good S/H pair from Ebay/Online parts dealer (I have found them in Poland,Norway,Sweden etc) (I prefer the buyer protection with Ebay)
The advice from everybody I spoke with that the shocks are replaced in pairs.
Buyer beware, I dont promote any of the above options and am not in any way connected with the trade, just a keen DIY enthusiast. I stand to be corrected on any of the above info!

The next problem is when replacements are fitted, do they have to be coded in, or set up up with the Audi VAS system. Can anybody advise?

    Thanks

Might be worth giving bagpipingandy on the c5 section a shout as he is an expert on the system on that car.

And maybe check with p38spares.co.uk who advertise on the forum. They only appear to have compressors for C6, but cover other stuff for C5 and may be able to point you in the right direction.

    Good luck. Keep us posted.

Thanks to all for their input. Ended up buying good used pair of rear shocks from the above Polish Ebay seller. As the electrical connectors were damaged (they get really stuck together with grit etc), he included two new plug bodies with the shocks which I had to fit.(1J0 973 802) .The shocks were easy enough to fit. I checked out the Elsawin info but gently jacking on the swing arm allowed the shock lower bolt to be fitted without deflating the air spring. A friend who used to work for Bilistein confirmed that the lower bolt should only be torqued with car on wheels,as doing it while jacked could put a serious preload on the bush etc. Bagpipingandy confirmed that there was no coding or MMI issues.
The green suspension warning lamp came on for a few seconds on initial startup but then went out.
Car passed the neccessary NCT/MOT retest on rear suspension difference with only a 4% difference between left and right.
