Oil burning smell in vents

Hey guys

Yesterday noticed a burning oil smell coming from the vents when I am driving it is very strong.

I have popped off the engine cover to see if I could see any leaks but it all looked normal dry.

I thought I could see very faint smoke coming from the hood but cannot recreate it again.

Any ideas ?

could well be a dpf regen happening, the smell you're getting is the burning of the soot.

i suggest taking it onto a motorway or dual carraigeway @ 70mph in 4th gear for 30 mins and see if it clears.

what sort of journeys does the car do regularly?

Mostly local. But once a week sometimes twice a journey of about 20miles

your egr cooler nor your dpf will like that in the long run, your journey(s) seem more suited to a petrol engined car.
