I've Googled this and can't seem to find a model specific solution for an Avant B8 and I am pulling my hair out. (and no doubt my neighbours too)
The alarm keeps sounding when locked it can be 2 mins after locking or 2hrs very random sounding off.
This why I'm typing this now as I have just spent a good 1hr trying to find how to stop it.
Is there some way of disconnecting temporarily until I can get to a garage or a way of fixing myself?
I'm aware of the batteries wearing out can anybody tell me where to find the bloody thing as I've checked in the boot behind the right side removable cover and cannot see anything that resembles an alarm!?

    Desperate help please!

You need a fault code scan done with VCDS as some generic readers won't pick up on manufacturer specific codes.

I'd be disconnecting the negative terminal on the main battery for now.

Try the fuses on the left hand side of the dash and pull the instrument cluster fuse - the immobiliser is built into it. If your alarm stops going off it's most likely an immobiliser fault.

Hi, Just a couple of tips that hopefully will be useful.....

    1. Do you have an air freshener in the car? Sounds silly but I have one that hangs off the rear view mirror and when it moves it sets the alarm off. If you've got one, try removing it.
    2. On the inside right of the drivers side door you can turn off the interior and tow protection alarm for the car. Its two buttons - you'll need to press these every time you lock the car, but if you do this and find that the alarm stops going off, chances are its a fault with the interior alarm system.
    3. Finally - try closing the air vents. Sometimes air blowing in can set off the interior alarm.

Ultimately its probably going to be a case of doing a fault scan to look for any faulty sensors or wiring. Hopefully the above might help a bit in the meantime!

    Regards

    -Andrew

p.s. Chris - you suggested disconnecting the battery terminal. Are you sure thats going to help? Its commonplace for even el-cheapo aftermarket alarms to have a backup battery that recharges....

The alarm records what circuit/sensor caused the last 4 trigger events. It's stored in one of the measured values in the Covenience ECU. A code scan probably wont show a fault but a read of the measured values will tell you what's setting it off.

    Regards.

    Jim.

    Hi,
I have had the same problem with my A6 2ltrD sline.. 2012.. I had codes showing the fuel cap actuator as the problem, which I replaced.. quite cheap €28.00 part. The next issue is the alarm horn, passengers side front bulk head... replaced that also.. much more expensive €210.00 and that didn't fix it either.. Going to get the car tested by someone in town..audi dealer here is useless... I did note the amount in stores in UK over 220 units on the shelf...may be a issue then.. with the sounders..
    Hope this helps..
Will try and post back here when I get the codes...
    Yak
