    Hi all,

Recently purchased a seat exeo 59 reg with 81k on cars lovely to drive but problem I do have is getting into 2nd gear from cold and also 3rd feels notchy...

I have changed the gearbox fluid to the oem stuff from Febi really thin fluid but it's not made a difference....

At Work we do a lucas transmission fix basically made in the USA so the products do as they say on the tin and the transmission fix people speak highly of it.

Shall I put this in or try and lubricate the linkage ?

I think this is a common issue...

Up until July last year when my new car arrived, I owned a 170TDi Exeo that always had that issue from day 1.. Always hard/difficult 1st to 2nd when cold . Here is my post on SeatCupra.net

    Gearchange 1st to 2nd? - SEAT Cupra.net - SEAT Forum

Never sorted mine, just got used to it... Lol Had the car from new for 3 and half years, fantastic car, loved it...

I don`t think the linkage is the issue there,2.0tdi cr have a bad quality gearboxes and I believe the 1.6tdi is the same but no personal experience yet.The problem I have come across is the main shaft bearings. There are 2 grades of oil listed for these and one is thinner than the other.Listen for any noises when clutch is pressed. All modern cars made of plastic I`m afraid.

Great knew it would be, well sounds like I've not got much to lose then with the lucas transmission fix, ill try that and also will try to lube the gear linkage.

It must be the same on the a4s then? And the rest of the german 6 speed boxes ?

As I say I purchase mine new, Registered November 5th 2010, as you can see I posted that on the 14th so it was an issue from day one... Never really bothered me once I got used to it, I found if you took it easy when cold, depressed the clutch and waited a second or so to go to 2nd it was OK, seemed worse if you changed quick and the revs where high...

Did 27000 happy miles in that car...

    That doesn't make any sense.

The gearboxes are transverse and gearbox specialists I have spoken to don't have any problems with them. I have put the thinner oil in from the oem number but like I said not made a difference.

A4`s have different boxes but quality build might be the same or better. If the shaft bearings making noise it is risky to drive.I bought a corolla for the wife with the same g/box bearing issue and while driving it from my workshop round the block to park up the gearbox locked up.However if there is no noise lucas might do the job. Also zx1 is probably is better as they claim it bonds to the metal rather than changing the viscosity.

Ahhh strange that because at work the cr 2.0 tdi caga engines throughout the range vw,audi, seat, skoda have the same gearboxes in. Same oem number.

The shaft bearing isn't making a noise, no noises what so ever from the gearbox. Still unsure as to why you say there bad gearboxes. I have read and heard people saying how mostly all 6 speed gearboxes are ropey 2nd and 3rd. Just like to try and cure the problem or make it less noticeable

going back onto this, 1st to 2nd is better, but on selecting 3rd gear I get like a noise from underneeth the car sounds like a rod or linkage doesnt do it every time. . . I have taken it to 2 gearbox specalists and they say its nothing to do with inside the box not the syncro or anything.

Anyone any ideas what could cause this please? as it doesnt have a linkage as such ive been told.

    Thanks
