Hi, Well this is my first post. Just recently got a 55 plate Passat B6. I believe originally it had a RCD500 fitted which was replaced with a RCD510 by a previous owner i know it still has the original canbus fitted which needs to be upgaded due to battery drain issue's. Some of the speakers don't appear to be working as they should which i need to look into. Im not sure if this is down to the head unit. So the question is when i go into the balance settings there is no fader option available. Can anyone throw any light why this option is not showing up on the touch screen. Cheers in advance.

The fader not showing usually means there are no rear speakers fitted. If you check for trouble codes, you might find the rear speakers are shown as open circuit. Or perhaps the vehicle the radio was originally fitted to didn't have rear speakers and the unit hasn't been coded for them.

Thank you for your reply Flash2. It has the Dynaudio system fitted and since my first post we have managed to run a diagnostic test on the speakers with a bosch kts which showed up errors on nearly all the speakers. It seems it has speakers in all the doors a total of 8. The vw sound systems are new to me so it might be a daft question but you mentioned about not being coded correctly how would one go about checking this out.

Sorry for taking so long to reply. Are you still having trouble with your radio?

The Dynaudio system in your car complicates things a little because AFAIK, it has an external amplifier that drives the speakers.
The coding in the radio tells the radio about the features of the car it's being fitted to, how many speakers it has, if it has a CD changer installed, etc.
If the car the new radio was originally fitted to has different specification than your car then the unit would need recoded to match the specification of your car.
The Bosch KTS isn't able to recode the radio (at least my own KTS 540 can't), you need a specialist VAG diag tool to do it like VCDS or VASPC/ODIS.
There is a map of forum members that have VCDS. See if anyone is in your area that may be able to help you out with recoding the unit for you :

    Regards.

Hi Jim. Thanks for getting back to me. Since my last post i have managed to find all the pin outs for the head unit and the amp. Not had time to do any checking on the system yet but from what you have just said the best place to start is make sure it's coded properly and go from there.

    Regards

    Alan
