My A6 has the basic MMI. When I put a cd in it does not show any track information, other than track 1, track 2 etc.

I have tried several new and old cd's, all of them originals and nothing shows for any of them. Yet, my I-Pod does show me all the track information when connected to the MMI.

Has anyone else experienced this, and if so, was there a solution? I tried the dealer and he helpfully said it might be the cd I was using. I have since tried many others and it is not.

I suspect it depends if the CD has this information stored on it - I suspect the older CD's don't have this

Its like when you used to "burn" a CD to your computer, windows media player would access the track ID's from the internet when "burning" the music to your hard drive

Exactly - only CDs with CD-Text have track information on them (probably what the dealer meant by try another disc). The player also needs to support CD-text though; I don't know if the RMC does.
The mp3s on your ipod will have track information embedded in them, which is passed to the MMI. This is already in mp3s you download, or will be looked up online when you rip a CD on a computer - it's not copied from the CD.

I think the MMI High (Tech Pack) comes with a built in Gracenote database on the hard disk which allows it to display track information for many CDs. However, I've never tried an ordinary audio CD in mine so I can't confirm this!

Thanks, but as I said in my post, I have tried all sorts of cd's now. 3 brand new ones, one about 3 years old and one about 5 years old. None of them show track information in my car, but work fine in the CD players in my house.

Maybe I should rephrase my question before I go back to the dealer.

Does anyone here have the standard MMI and does it show track information from any of your cd's?

    Thanks

Try the CDs you have (more recent the better) with a generic media player on a PC (not iTunes) and see if it shows the track names. If it does then the CD (probably) has the track names encoded into it. Then try that CD in the car. Some domestic DVD players and hifis also show track names so that would be an alternative to finding a CD that you have with track names. Never actually used the CD player in the car always use an iPod

Does your in-house cd-player have network access, for PC's and network capable CD-player download the track information from the net, something you car cannot do so you only get track1, 2 etc....

Suggest OP turns off or disconnects the internet connection when checking if the cd has track data encoded

Yes, and no. Same as you.

Had a play this morning. Don't think the RMC system supports CD Text
