    Hi,

I've been reading that an active DPF Regeneration is triggered by a soot load of 45%. But in VCDS I can't see any soot "load", I have only two parameters with the current values at:

12 Particle Filter Carbon Mass (spec.)
5.4 Particle Filter Carbon Mass (act.)

    I have a Golf 6 from 2009, 2.0 Diesel.

A few days ago I've seen that the Requested Regeneration increased from 2 to 3, and I was wondering when to expect that the ECU will trigger another active regeneration....

It's true that my wife was driving and I believe that she has stopped the previous regeneration since she was doing short trips...

    Thank you

I've just driven for 60miles around 25min with no luck. I believe that the soot level needs to be a bit upper but I do not know which level that is, hence my question.

    Thank you

I guess that the actual carbon mass value (5.4) increases until it reaches the specified value (12) which then triggers an active regeneration?

Are you sure? You'd have to have averaged over 140mph to do that!?

The specified value is increasing it was 10 before and now it's 12. It is slowly increasing... the actual value is sometimes decreasing, sometimes increasing...

I did not time it exactly, I guess it was 35-40min and maybe 55-58 miles. I reached a max of 100mph because I was checking the temperature prior to DPF and I couldn't understand the conditions under which it is increasing. But it was only briefly for 100mph because I was afraid to get a ticket.

I have noted down the exact miles I can look it up, but I did not write down the time it took.

In any case, my point was that I drove the car for some many minutes but there was no Regeneration attempt, hence my question, when is the ECU triggering an active regeneration?

I drove it in the 4th gear for some miles with high rpm (I was thinking that this might get the DPF temperature up) and then in the 5th...

    Thank you

VCDS does show Carbon values it does on mine.

2010 Golf GTD (170) CBBB, 5 Door, Shadow Blue (P6/D5Q), Flat Tyre Indicator, Basic Protection Pack + VCDS.

    Hi Keithuk,

I have the same values, and my question is, based on these values when shall I expect the ECU to trigger an active regeneration?

Is it when the calculated carbon mass / soot will reach let's say 35?
Or is it a percentage between the calculated soot and the actual one? but if this is the case, the calculated soot is increasing....

Or is it the mileage since last regeneration?

    Thanks

Active regenerations occur at varying intervals depending on journey type and driving style.
Passive regeneration occurs during a drive like the one you describe as the dpf will have reached sufficient temperature for a reasonable amount of time. It therefore makes sense that the values viewed in VCDS will be constantly changing.
If longer, open road journeys were the norm active regeneration would probably hardly ever occur.
