I'm trying to find instructions on how to replace the front parking sensors but can't seem to track it down.
I have read on other posts that the rear sensors definitely need the bumper removing, but the fronts can be done with it in situ. Is this correct and can anybody point me in the direction of the instructions?

    Thanks in advance.

The rear parking sensors definitely require removal of the rear bumper for access. The front sensors can be accessed with bumper in situ - if you are a midget and don't mind shredding your small fingers. There is an electrical connection to each sensor which must be disconnected and the sensor itself is clipped into the bumper. Releasing the clip can be difficult enough with the bumper removed! Add to this the fact you cannot see what you are doing and you realise the easiest way is .....
    REMOVE THE FRONT BUMPER FIRST!
I need to service both front and rear sets of sensors on my 2002 Allroad - most have corrosion under the paint and just need sanding down and repainting. I have one at the rear which has been pushed in and the clip mechanism needs "Araldite" and re-seated. Both bumpers will come off first!
If your current sensors are playing up, try rubbing across each sensor with your thumb nail for a temp fix (if corrosion present you will see little bumps underneath the paint). Long term fix is to sand down and re-paint.

If first time removing front bumper, make sure you unfasten the quick-release clip for the screen/headlight washers BEFORE removing bumper. On these old cars the plastic parts turn brittle and the plastic T-piece can crack if under strain. You are wondering how I know this!
Also, I have a post on how to remove back bumper.

In interests of anybody looking to do the same I actually managed to release the central front sensors easily, without having to remove the front bumper. You do still need to do that if it's the outer sensors, but a doddle for the ones by the number plate, once you know how.

I can post some pics, but essentially as you look down on to the bumper at the sensor, you only need to push outwards on the rear clip on the left side for the sensor to release it from the bumper. You can then easily remove the plug/wire and hey presto! You have your sensor out.
    Literally a 5 second job.

Here's a photo of behind the sensor, looking towards the front.

The clip you can see is the one you need to push out

@hanny77 hi. I have got the same problem. Front centre parking sensor gone and needs replacing. I can't see the sensor as you have pictures. There is a metal case behind the bumper. Mine is A6 C5 04 saloon. do you think I will need to take the bumper off to replace? Thanks.
