Polo deep black (pearl) £535 Vs black (special) £255

Hi all,

Looking to change the wife's car. She wants a black one but can someone tell me the difference between the above 2 paint finishes? Is the black just flat black and VW are being tight or is it 'special' in any way?

Looking at either an SE Design, and SEL or BlueGT DSG.

The 'special' black is just plain black, not metallic. The 'pearl' is basically a metallic black, with small flakes in it. My 9n is 'metallic' black. My mum had a plain 'special' black Golf 5, and the special black looks better IMO when clean. It's deeper and looks fantastic when polished. But when slightly dirty they're pretty much the same.

I wouldn't pay the extra personally if buying new. The 'special' paints are just regular paint that VW charges more because they can, same as with the white and Mayan blue. The Mayan blue is free on the Up and black is free on the Golf, so I doubt it costs VW any more to paint a car in those colours.
