I used to work for a warranty company, and if you do decide to buy it, read the small print first.

As with any insurance product, there are lots of exclusions.

Typically if your tyre goes pop and is half worn they only give you half the money towards the new one.

They also have plenty of circumstances in which they won't pay out at all.

I've never bought it myself as I'm generally a "take the risk" type person but I did get it chucked in for free once and claimed and got some money off a new tyre so it can work out.

Your call as to where the price / risk trade off lies, but hopefully you know what to look out for now.

I launched extended warranty for consumer products in the blue chip company I use to work for but have never ever bought it in the same way I've never bought payment protection insurance in my life. Natch I do have car insurance and home insurance and that's about it, both are mandatory for legality/mortgage terms.

As an example I've now lived in my home for 10yrs and it was a new-build when purchased, had I taken out gas boiler cover I calculate I'd have paid in excess of £1200 to date, had one fault with the fan, bought the part and had it fitted for all under £100. So have effectively savd the cost of a brand new boiler!

If you can afford the car you should be able to afford the tyres, even a pair if the need arises?

Thanks guys, I think I will probably take a chance :-/ and yeah I should be able to afford the tyres mark, but unexpected bills are a pain in the ***!! Especially ones that could cost £200 a pop. Pardon the pun

I picked up my new BE Ultra last friday and have bought the dealers parent groups Inchape tyre only insuraance at £249 for 3 years covering 5 tyres in total at £300 per claim limit.
Its for my peace of mind ,does not cover wear and tear, but covers accidental damage or non repairable punctures stuff like that,I have not got any other insurance for the car,one can go on and on buying cover for Gap,Tracker, alloy wheels,Dents etc,but you have to weigh up what you are happy with.

Thanks for the info. Most of the insurance quotes I have looked at are similar to that one. I will ask the dealership to see what they offer. Thanks for the info.

How much is tyre insurance? I'm thinking with the quality of modern tyres it would be less hassle to put £XX.XX in a bisto tin every week. You won't have to fight with yourself if you need new tyres

you might be right. It's just that peace of mind. A friend had a Porsche boxster s and only had it a couple of days and managed two punctures! He thankfully had insurance. I will see what the dealer says and then I will decide.

I don't insure anything unless I have to - Cars, houses etc there is insurance and extended warranty out there for literally everything. If I insured everything I owned I would be skint. It's a risk vs reward scenario and so far I am very much being rewarded by not insuring everything. Some may be in the other boat but that's just my view on things.
