    Hi all,
have been lurking around the forums for a couple of weeks now and thought it was high time I came forward and said - thanks for all the useful info that's posted here ...

I bought my car - A6 Avant 2.0 TDI (Phantom Black for what its worth) towards the end of July. Born January '14 so just over 6 months old. Thoroughly delighted with it so far.

I have a question around the documentation / handover pack.

Firstly - should there be a service history booklet in the manual pack ? There's a "Service Receipts" pocket in the handover binder but no old fashioned service history booklet - the type with pages for each service at mileage 12345, oil filter changed, oil type etc. Is this normal ?

Secondly - and this is for Avant owners, the owners manual that I got is for a saloon - with no sections for the Avant. I asked my sales guy afterwards and he said that it was normal, said he just sold an A4 Avant and it was the same. I still find this hard to believe - no documentation for Avant specifics like rear wiper, load liner, load divider etc ?

    Any views on this ?

    Thanks,
    Wellies

Service data is all now recorded electronically, you dont get a service book.

No service history booklet with mine. As long as you have the car maintained by an Audi dealer Audi maintain an electronic record.

My owners manual has a picture of a saloon on the front but covers both saloon / avant an allroad models. There aren't separate sections in the manual but differences between the models are covered as appropriate. E.g. the 'seats and storage' section has several pages starting at page 67 covering the avant / allroad luggage compartment.
A6 Allroad BiTDI, Phantom Black, Rear Parking Camera, Tech Pack, Lighting Pack, Heated Front Seats, Side Assist, 75l Tank, Thru Load, Adaptive Lights, 4 Zone a/c, Comfort Seats, Folding/Dimming Door Mirrors, Deletion of Model / Engine Badges.

You don't need to have main dealer service your new audi. Audi have to give Indy garages access to the database, to record services

    Thanks for all the replies.

Absence of service booklet comments puts my mind at rest. Its my first Audi and had my last car for 7 years - so maybe its become a common enough practice across makes to use electronic records. Makes sense really. (The paperless car !!). Interesting comment about Indy garages Lukenkarl.

Thanks for your comments on the Owners Manual Retired99. Like you I have a picture of a saloon on my manual cover but on page 67 - its about Heating and Cooling. No mention of the word Avant anywhere - not even in the index. The word Tailgate is in the index - and the reference says "See Boot lid" ...

FWIW - there's a version reference on the back cover of my manual as follows ... Audi A6 Owner's Manual Englisch 11.2010 111.561.4G2.20

I think my sales guy is telling me porkies ... wouldn't mind so much if I could download a PDF version but it seems Audi don't publish electronic versions.

Any other comments from Avant owners ...

My car is July 2013 (Model year 2014), so older than yours and comes with a manual 05.2013 141.561.4G0.20.

At first glance it would seem that you have an old manual (11.2010 v 05.2013).

The info on the back cover of my manual indicates that the manual covers the A6 saloon and avant, S6 saloon and avant, A6 hybrid and A6 allroad.

Confirmation of the manual version and date stamp sways it for me.

And, I think I've been fobbed off on this one. I bought through a large UK VAG franchise. When you part with ~25k for top kit, some attention to detail should be expected.

    An email shall ensue ...

    Thanks for the info

There is the option of a paper book as well.

if your Indy has a VAS machine and a paid subscription then they will be able to update the electronic service records. If they just have VCDS or a non-subscription VAS unit then they can't update your records on line because Audi (and all other VAG dealers) charge for access.

Ultimately, I'm keeping all the paperwork for mine. I think buyers like a big pile of receipts that show how you've looked after your car.

Just to add to your evidence i have an A6 Avant registered June 2012 (built May 2012) and I have an Avant Specific handbook covering A6, Allroad and S6. The part number of mine is 123.561.4GS.20 and the issue date 01.2012. Given the date of yours is 11.2010 it must have been for one of the very first A6 4G saloons, before the Avant was introduced, hence no Avant reference. It sounds like they now do a combined handbook. Suggest you ask to see the handbook from another car, perhaps one not yet delivered and compare copies. I suspect the original handbook for you car got mislaid and they simply put one they had hanging around

Thanks for that John - very helpful. The date stamp on the manual even pre-dates the launch of the C7. So several versions of the manual I can quote back now..

Couldn't agree more. I reckon it speaks for the providence of the car - and the mindset of the owner. Any prospective future buyer would welcome a paper history. I'll be keeping mine too.
