I'm in the process of selling my bombproof AFN engined Audi A4 Tdi Avant and was considering a B7 Tdi Avant. I also quite like the A3 Sportback. Am I into non-PD engines territory with those choices? What about DPFs? When did they enter the equation?
I want another Audi but my 'keep it simple' senses are telling me to go for a PD engined model. I do quite a lot of short journeys (as well as long ones at times) so something with a DPF is going to be a pain in the ****.
Thanks in advance for any advice!

the b7 used a 1.9 115 bhp pd and the 2 litres were pd as well, 140 and 170 bhp. some have dpfs. after that they all went common rail and post 2008 they have a dpf for european reasons. my advice, spend the money on your old bus, bit of rebuild, sort any bodywork, new suspension, be happy.
Audi 80 tdi avant with 360,000 miles...

Thanks for that. Ideally I do want a B6 though, despite the ruggedness of the B5!

My 09 A3 has a 1.9 PD fitted with DPF. It was one of the very last ones before they killed the old 1.9 for good.
