My 2007 A6 has a "Check" button, which I think many (if not all do). I know that I can use it to set a speed warning and to bring up any faults if a warning light appears.

However, when the ignition is on but the engine isn't, if I press it, it shows up some symbols in the driver display (between the speedo and rev counter) - some are red, some yellow. I don't get any warning messages though. Is that all normal or do I have any problems? I'm hoping it's all as should be.

It Just scrolls through all the systems it monitors. Sounds like yours is as it should be.
When you first turn on the ignition it will go through the checks and give you an OK message if all is well.

Thanks. The manual is a big vague about it so I wanted to check. When I manually press the "Check" button it scrolls through but doesn't give an OK. But you say, when I switch the engine on normally it should say "OK" each time? I can't remember if it does or not but will check later.

On my A6 (2005) I don't get OK message at end, it just scrolls through tests and just finish if no faults.

If there is a fault it will show in DIS on initial ignition key turn/detection, then will disappear from DIS after period and if you wish to re read it you press check button.

As above, if there is a fault the car will display it on the DIS without you doing anything. The function is working as normal.
