    Hi all,

I've managed to completely lock myself out of the car. My battery went flat and i found out the alternator was dud so as i was going away for a week i disconnected the battery to stop it going completely flat. Being the fool however i decided to lock the car before i disconnected it and then proceeded to shut the bonnet.

I can't go in through the boot as the lock is dodgey and the drivers side lock has been broken for a while so i've been relying on the passenger side lock which doesn't have the mechanical overide. I've seen people mention going under the car and getting access to the bonnet release cable to get in, is this a viable option?

Any suggestions are welcome but please don't suggest smashing a window as that really is a last resort.

Cheers i hope someone can help.

I think your only option is to tug the bonnet release cable. Nobody wants a smashed window! It shouldnt be too hard to find, you just need to look near to where the bonnet release is in the cabin and follow it round.

I've read somewhere that if you jack the car up on the drivers side and remove the engine cover you can get at the cable from underneath can anyone confirm this?

Since the battery is disconnected, cant you jack the front end up and pull the catch with a long hook type of device, like a coat hanger. You will need a mirror and a torch i'm sure as its going to be a pain to find the cable without pulling lots of trim off.

Cheers for all the advice guys i managed to get the bonnet open by wedging the door open and pulling the bonnet release with a hook cheaper than breaking the window!
