    Hi,

I recently bought an used Audi A4 (B5) 1.9TDi and this is my first Audi. But looks like the seller reset all the fault codes. 2nd day of owning the car following problem occurred:

    1. The Air Bag light came on?
    2. Went to the motorway and the ABS and ASR light came on over 70mph speed?
    3. There are some noise coming on bumps and holes, got it checked and all the bushes are fine, this morning I suspected the brake disc and drive the car with the brake slightly engaged on bumps and the noise doesn't come when the brake is touching the disc. Don;t know what to look for exactly and how easy it is to disassemble it?
    4. When braking sometime the brake make grinding noise as though the ABS is activated?

I am quite good with DIY in car and previously used to do most off the mechanical work in Toyota and Vauxhall I owned. I have ordered a VAG com to check the codes.

Any help or hints will be appreciated?

1 is most likely your airbag module or a seat connector.
A scan will tell you which.
Under the front seats (probably the drivers, as you moved it after buying the car) is a yellow connector.
Disconnect, then reconnect the connecter - that will most likely fix the fault.
If the fault code is for the module, get another or send your one off.
2+4 are probably one of the reluctor rings cracked.
If you have the ABS light on, VCDS/VAGCom will tell you which wheel.
If the light is not on, you need genuine VCDS and log into module three. drive below 20kph (or you get kicked out) and log the wheel speed sensors.
    The cracked one will spike.
3 is probably one of 10 possible arms/balljoints at the front.
If you want to keep the car, get Jason at All German Parts (advertised on the forum) to sell you a Meyle kit - they have a 4 year warranty and are not chocolate (or cheap)
Doing one at a time MAY fix the fault, but they will all be worn so bite the bullet and get the most out of your cash.
On the plus side, my 1.9 FWD got 50+ MPG and was a great stand-in car for my wife so persevere!

Thank you very much. I think you are right. I will start with the VCDS/VAG com and troubleshoot one at a time. I will update you the out come. Cheers and Thanks.

I agree the Meyle suspension arms and drop links are the kit to fit if you intend to keep the car. As for the brake grinding noise, maybe investigate the condition of the pads and discs as well as the ABS system. It's not unknown for the discs to warp or become corrroded/worn as the miles pile on. If you replace the discs and pads I'd suggest that you use OEM parts, I've played with some aftermarket cheapo types only to end up buying genuine items from Audi. Also be aware that a flooded plenum chamber can lead to water ingress into the brake servo the only fix is to replace the servo and keep the plenum drains clear of ony leaves ect. Calipers are also known to seize on their floating pins. Just out of interest is either of your front hubs/wheels getting excessivly hot after a run?

    At last the problem sorted.

    1. Airbag connector was loose, so cut the plug and put on some crimp connections and reset code.
    2. remaining three problems on the brake pads. ABS light and noise came from brake pads. changed all 4 brake pads noise gone.

The car drive like a dream now. Going to get cambelt done soon by iautoUK. They are charging fixed price of £325 belt kit, tensioner and water pump. OEM parts with two years warranty.

    Thanks for the help everyone.
