    Audi A6 Avant 3.2 quattro 2006

I've been after an estate for a while now and a friend is selling this A6, he wants it gone quick and is willing to part with it for £3,000.

The car is completely standard but done 130,000 miles..

    Is it a good deal?
    Should I avoid it?
Anything I should take into consideration given age and miles?
    Known faults?

Thanks in advance for any help!

    Sam

For that price, you should bite his arm off.

That's what I was thinking. I'm just worried by the MPG and possible repair costs, but if the car is such a steal to start with I can't got too wrong.

Get it LPG converted, so about a £2k investment, search the forum as others have done it.

It tiptronic then it should have had a transmission filter/fluid change

Get it MOT'd so you can get an indication of costs

Brakes and discs all around £400
Suspension arms £80 a piece (far cheaper if all are done at once)
    Drop links £80
    Springs full set £400
    XK8 96 Dyno'd at 305 and LPG converted, a mere 65ppl
    A6 07 3.0 quattro tip SE Limo, black,black leather/tints /black alloys/towbar/Alientech Eco Remap/quads/Rear DVD screens/Pogo Alert+

Watch for chain tensioner noise when starting from cold, i have done 2 already and it's not an easy task or cheap to start with... I would look at the 2.7 or 3.0Tdi, they have similar power (ok, the 3.0Tdi has) and twice as frugal + a bit more reliable as well ! 250Bhp from a 3.2 NA engine is small potatoes nowadays and spending another 2k on a LPG conversion just does not makes financial sense...

Surely depends on the annual mileage done?

I did 24k miles in the year following my conversion when LPG was 33ppl and unleaded 88ppl, the difference in my fuel bill was dramatic

Cheers for the responses, I'll be sure to follow the advice.
As for the lpg, I don't do a lot of miles and only plan on having the car for a few years, but not something I would've thought about.
Does the car drive differently after the conversion?
I also would've gone for the 3.0 Tdi but it's not what's on offer.

I'm just going to go for it, if it gets too expensive to run I'll just sell it, probably for more than I bought it for.

    Thanks again guys!

Chains are big money if they go pop and you could spend the purchase price again on fixing it. If you can, go for a later car, ie the newer the better and it'll have more updated parts and different revisions where niggles have been ironed out on earlier cars.

Sam, I would say unless doing over 12k miles and over an LPG conversion makes no sense.

Appreciate that with a small engine, say a 1.6 you'd doubtless notice a performance dip. However, with a larger engine, where you're never going to really use it's full potential. With an LPG converted car there is no carbonisation of the oil so it stays clean longer, in fact it can still be amber in colour after 5000 miles.

Additionally it is possible to remap the petrol and LPG ECU's so that it will produce more power than a standard petrol model with a remap.

    Good luck whatever your choice.

    Hi there,

I run the same car with the same engine and get 26 MPG. Mine had new chains fitted just before I bought the car and the bill was about £2500 I think, so beware if it sounds noisy in any way.

I really like this car because its sounds nice and has plenty of power so it may be worth taking a punt and buying it in my opinion.
