Hi All. I am new to the Audi community and just recently bought myself a 2009 Audi A6 2.0T. I have been trying to understand the headlight configuration and functioning. I am from South Africa, so I assume we would use the UK spec.

The headlight cluster has 4 lights namely; DRL, Indicator, Xenon and another (looks like a spot). When using the vehicle I activate the high beams and only the xenon's come on. When using the flash to pass function the xenon's and the "spots" come on. Why the difference and why can the spots not be set to activate with the high beams as they are highly effective.

Any help or explanation on the functioning of the headlights would be helpful.

    Thanks.

What you're seeing is normal and same as UK cars, this was covered in a previous thread.

    Thanks for the welcome!

Could you send me the link to the previous thread as I did search but did not come across it?
If you say normal, you mean the functioning is correct? Why then have the additional spots if they not fully utilised, and that they are very effective in the dark.

Xenon lights do not work well for flashing as they are not "instant on" in the way that a halogen bulb is hence the need for a separate bulb which is not used for anything else. Would be surprised if your Xenon's came on when you flash if they are not already on (i.e. during daylight hours), On pre-facelift cars that did not have bi-Xenon (xenon that can do both dipped and main beam) they used the halogen main beam.

That makes sense. What is the possibilty of programming the halogens to activate with the bi-xenons on high beam. Can it be done?

No idea, but probably not as there would be no wiring to the halogen bulbs from the main beam circuit.

instead of pulling the stalk towards you to flash, push it away from you. it should stay in this position and you will get the "blue light" symbol on the instrument cluster whenever the beam is activated.

Don't think that was the OP's issue. On facelift cars with bi-xenons the inner pair of bulbs are only used for flashing (pulling the stalk). Main beam (pushing stalk away) is controlled within the main xenon unit. OP was asking if there was a way to add the inner pair to the bi-xenon main beam
