    Related to my previous post, in the measuring block the mileage is noted in l/h, which I assume is litres per hour, I have had a look on the internet and can only find l/100km.

    Does anybody know a quick conversion between 1/h and mpg?

    Thanks.

    Let's say the instantaneous l/h figure is X and at the same time the speed is Y mph. Then by my logic the instantaneous consumption will be:

    4.54609*Y/X mpg.

    Thank you for that.

    A further problem is the the speed is quoted in Km/h ( is there a way to get vcds to imperial?) so the conversion to mph with have to be integrated into your equation

    1 mp/h= 1.609 kmh or

    1 km/h = 0.621 mph

    Then y(kmh x 0.621 mph) x (x l/h / 4.56 l/h) = mpg

    So a practical example from one of my readings where

    y = 57.6 km/h

    x = 2.81 l/h

    mph(57.6km/h / 1.61km/h) X xg(2.81l/h / 4.56l/h) ===> 35.78mph x 0.618g = 22.11 mphg

    Or about 22.11 mpg (I think)

    Basically a bit of a to do to get there.

    People my find this link useful:

    Not sure that your equations are quite right.

    Speed = Z km/h = 1.609*Y mph or Y mph= 0.621 * Z kph

    So replacing Y in my equation with Z * 0.621:

    4.54609*Z*0.621/X mpg

    2.823*Z/X mpg

    So for your example:

    2.823*57.6/2.81 = 57.87 mpg

    Was your speed fairly steady at time of measurement?

    I was doing around 30 mph, but I used a 'snap shot from vcds. I do drive an audi A4 B5 1996, if I'm getting nearly 60 mph at 30 mph I'll take that any day.

    As you can tell I'm hopeless at maths and you are probably right, but 57.87mpg seems a bit too good unless of course at that instant I had just taken my foot of the accelerator!!.

    If you have a continuous output from VCDS then you could load into a spread sheet and get it to repeat the calculation and plot graph of output.
