    Audi A4 2.0tdi avant 2007
I've used the satnav regularly for past 5 years but over past few weeks I've been getting a problem - message pops up 'unable to read disc'.
Sometimes the problem goes if I take disc out and then replace, other times it carries on with same issue. I've also changed the disc to a newer version but still same problem.
    Couple of questions to pose:
    - Do I need a whole new unit? If so, where do I get one from and who do I get to fit it?
    - does something just need cleaning? If so, how do I do this?

    Many thanks

lense probably needs a clean, you can get cleaning disks online the one i had once was a cd with a little brush on it. unless there is a way to open the unit up and clean the laser that way.

My RNS-E also had stopped reading Sat-Nav DVD at all (Genuine one, not copy). Sometimes it did, but after a few minutes it stopped. I tried CD/DVD cleaner, but it didn't help at all.

Therefore, before I had given up, I decided to open it up and clean the lens directly. Actually, it is very easy, only three small screws on the top and two screws on each side.
You may need a good small screw driver because these three small screws are quite tight.

Then, you can remove the top bit. Now you can see the lens easily (if you don't have a disc inside). I put lens cleaner on a cotton pad, and rub it out gently. I cleaned a few times. Some people say you shouldn't clean it too much. But as long as you are careful, I think it should be all right.

I was very surprised how dirty the lens was. I waited 10 mins before closing to dry it up, just in case.

The result is amazing! Sat Nav DVD can be read in a few seconds. It used to take 30 seconds (maybe less but I felt it took so long). I know I shouldn't use a copy version, but it also can be loaded immediately. I should have done it earlier. I had struggle a lot with dvd reading problem for months. It's been all right after a week. No problem at all I hope this is helpful for you.
