    hi
I have first refusal on the above, a 2010 with 110k, a company car. I'm not really very enthusiastic about it but for the right price I will buy it. The dpf and rear calipers worry me, mind its in beautiful condition. Currently got a golf 55 reg. I would be after doing the cam belt on it fairly quickly, I've done a couple of vw belts and found them fine to do. Can anyone tell me if this engine is straightforward, its a stretchy belt, noticed the price of them is high compared to what I have paid in the past for a cambelt kit. Any practical advise would be much appreciated along with any general comments on the car itself, I'm not bothered about the lack of performance, our current diesel golf doesn't have a turbo.

The 1.6s had problems with EGR systems from reading on here and elsewhere. What engine is your Golf?

    Hi.
I bought a 1.6 tdi blue motion just a year ago with 75000 on the clock and full vw service(it had been a lease car).
The belts had been done when I got it and the dealer put a new dmf and clutch in it.
I had it remapped to about 125 bhp and it goes very well, very smooth engine and very quiet(the remap does that). I now have
92000 miles on it and apart from servicing, which I do myself, it has been faultless. Most of my driving is around town and the engine is allways below temp, hence I only get about 45 mpg but 4 or 5 times a year I travel to the Orkneys, doing 13-1400 miles per trip. I on these runs I get about 58 mpg but that is fully loaded with guns, fishing tackle and dogs and I don't drive steady.

    Hi.
The ramap was Ł180 from Remap Science in Bradford, it was only a very mild remap, done to smooth the engine and my insurance didn't require any increase in my premium. I have had a couple of 1.9 tdi's in the past which I have also had remapped and this engine is as good, kicking out the same power. The calipers aren't a problem in later cars and the dpf light has only been on twice since I have had the car but a 15 minute run at higher revs soon sorted that out.
