Despite owning all manner of Allen, Torx and Double Hex bits I've come to realise I don't have anything that correctly fits the "special" bolts that VW use to hold things together.
So I'm looking to buy a set but am confused over what I should be buying. Are they Spline bits or Triple Square? A quick Google seems to confuse me even more with some results saying they're the same and others that though they look alike the actual angles are slightly different.
I want to make sure I'll be getting the right tools, so any help will be gratefully received.

What are you trying to undo? Torx and spline are normally enough tho some sumps and gearboxes need a security type bit

    Hi,
Nothing in particular right now, though in a few months I will be changing the gearbox oil. I just like having the right tools rather than trying to make something fit where it's not supposed to go and I've noticed there's a fair few of these "special" bolts dotted around the Mk1V, rear brake, hubs etc.

Spline it is then, thanks. I'll have a look around for a decent set.

Ah, yes. I've noticed that. Laser do a 1/2" sq drive tamperproof impact spline set that I intend to get.
    Thanks for your replies.
