Currently considering a 54 plate Audi A4 1.9 TDI 130 Sport [6] 5dr with 51K miles on the clock and priced at £6K. The mileage seems low an the car looks clean....Any advice on what to check before buying?
    Help would be appreciated

Having bought a 04 A4 B6 130 TDI cvt last year I would suggest you check. Windscreen wipers, Prone to seizing ensure they run at a reasonable speed. Check the display on the gearbox selector is good and solid. If it flashes or the display lights up all the gears, run away and fast. Check the bulkhead plenum chamber that is in front of the windscreen where the battery sits. Make sure there is no water in it and if you do buy the car keep checking for water. If water is being trapped you will need to clean out the water bungs under the battery and the brake servo. Check the radio for missing display lines or pixels. Check the glove box for broken hinge. Make sure the temperature gauge gets up to 90 degrees (takes about 5 miles) and stays there. Check the heater functions and that the flaps steer the air correctly.
I'm sure the real experts on here will also come up with other items. I also suggest buying a cheap diagnostic tool and check the car before buying. All the above is personal experience within the last year. Good luck

very good choice of car there . i have an 2004 a4 1.9 tdi sport avant owned it 4 years now all bar a month sold it once then missed it so much i bought it back best car i have ever owned by far. it is my tenth audi i usually keep my cars about 12 month then get bored but not this one . any way back to your car that is low mileage 5000 a year so i would pay special attention to the suspension arms when you are on the test drive find some speed bumps and listen for knocks from the front suspension the reason i say this is because at 5000 miles a year it as probably spent most of its time running round town and stop start motoring all the speed bumps and pot holes will take its toll on the suspension set up .

I would do everything to verify this mileage cos most bought them to use a lot more and the engine is happier with long runs.Even if genuine miles the cambelt should have been changed at least once. The price is very high and you could buy a lot later one with decent extras for that .I still prefer the Quattro 2.5tdi and the avant is desirable for looks and practicality

Everything as said above, but ignore the info about gear selection and running away, this only applies to auto box and yours is 6 manual, as helpful as that info may be to
other readers it will not apply to you.
And it does sound a bit dear
