Hi all hope someone can help. I bought a 2.0 tdi touran all of 2 years ago it is a 2.0 tdi 6 speed 2008 36K. The clutch blew at 39K thousand pounds later at the start of 2013 now I see I have an oil leak around the drivers side driveshaft oil seal.

I gave the driveshaft a pull towards the tyre and it moved a good few mm and more oil started dripping from it. I pushed it back and it stopped. Should the drive shaft actually move this much?

Do you think while the garage was replacing the clutch that they could have done something wrong?

Anyone got a schematic of the 6 speed gearbox as I would like to see how the drive actually is attached inside the gearbox as I would like to know why the shaft can actually pull out like that?

How do you fill / check the oil level as I have no idea how much I have lost but I don't think its too much?

Do you think it is an expensive repair?

Any help much appreciated I need to use this car a lot over Christmas and am worried I could end up trashing the gearbox and would have no way of getting it repaired over the festive season.

    Thanks

    David

Thats an auto box but same idea. Seal many be gone simple to replace. Are you sure it's dripping from the box and not the inner joint?

thanks for that diagram. What is it exactly that keeps the drive shafts in the gearbox? I can see a splined shaft at the end of it right next below the number 27 any ideas? that shaft must attach into a final gear or something, just wondering is there a split pin in there or something that may have sheared off allowing my driveshaft to move in and out a fair bit.
Its definitely coming from the driveshaft oil seal not the inner CV and its that old smelly hypoid gearbox oil rather than the watery engine oil or grease from a CV joint. When I pulled the shaft oil started dripping out so definitely from there.

    Cheers

    Hi Zollaf,
was responding to first post back missed your one popping up. Yes I think there must be a split pin or maybe C clip wondering if it has sheered off. Never noticed a drive shaft having this much in and out play before.

I'm not certain there is a clip I think the bolt in the middle is what holds the flange in place

cheers I think rather than me messing around with it its time for another garage to have a look at it, probably not the ones who put the clutch in as they are to far away. Once I get a second opinion I will come back and tell you what the damage is, for info.

    Cheers
