EPC light coming on randomly and stays on until restart

Hi Everyone

I have got an Audi A4 2002 1.9 TDI 130 engine code awx 115K on the clock serviced regularly. Today when i was driving to work the EPC light randomly came on, this has happened once previously, however, when i switched off the engine and start again the light has disappeared.

Please note, my driving to work all A roads (60 and 40 speed limits) bit of traffic and idle at the time, no motorway involved so did not feel that i have lost and power when the EPC light came on.

Could some one please explain to me, is this issue something i need to be worry about and need to get checked out by the garage? what could be causing this problem?

Any advice and information would be very much appreciated.

When I had this it was the brake light switch, you will need to get the codes read to be sure. I have a cheap code reader and the part was only 12euros from Audi so I took the gamble and it sorted the ESP light.

Thanks for your response, i would like to know will the garage be able to get the fault code even without the EPC light is not on?

Because, this morning i was driving the EPC light did not come on.

Please advice.

Yes the fault code should have been logged, my car had an intermittent fault where the light would be on one day but not he next. This part is very easy to change yourself, if you search on here you will find a guide on how to do it.

Thanks for yours response, i did get the name wrong its the ESP light that has came on not the EPC, sorry for the confusing you.

Dirty abs sensor caused my passats esp light to come on few years ago old grease and grim on it wiped it off worked spot on for next 18mths

Just had a similar problem when starting my A4 ECP light would stay on after engine start at times loss of power when driving, long engine kranking until the engine would start, fault code P0322 engine speed sensor £95 from Audi £28 from euorparts 1hour or so to fit running great at last. Get the code 1st, and go from there
